BG (1&2) is HARD... you will get mastery over it one day about 10 years from now. NW is 3e rules and about 1/2 as hard. Play whatever one you want to... good luck.

If you just play BG2 without ever playing BG1 you are going to miss some of the back story. I would play the BGEE first, then BG2 would make more sense. Really no word yet on when (or if) BG2EE will be made. I suppose it depends on the success of BGEE.

I would go with NW2 first. By the time you finish it (if you replay a few times) BGEE may be out.

BG2 stands on its own. Give it a try. Probably the easiest way to get thru it is as a Fighter if you haven't played this type of D&D game before, and you can use Novice/Easy level so you don't feel too frustrated. But it's the sort of game that you'll probably want to replay a # of times, so you're not going to spoil anything for yourself by not waiting until you get hold of BG1.

Thanks a lot, and should I still play BG1 before? I know some characters are the same, but is the main character the same too ?

If you're ok with watching Star Wars (Return of the Jedi) before you see Star Wars A new hope then go ahead and play bg2 first.

You can create an entirely new character for BG2 if you want, but most people would probably want to import their character from BG1 in order to continue the storyline.

Choosing between BG2 & NWN2 for the first time, I'm envious. Do you have BG1 as well, or are you just wishing? Anyway, I would rank them BG2 SoA, BG2 ToB, BG1, NWN2, MotB, & SoZ. I would dive straight in with BG2 myself.

I remember playing BG2 after loving BG1, and then being put off by the opening area of BG2 and shelving the game for a couple of months. Just persevere, it really is pretty cool. As for BG1, play it first if you have it and promise to blay BG2 afterwards, otherwise get some BG2 under your belt and then try BG1 using the BG2 engine via the tutu mod.

NWN2 is pretty cool too, but there is much more 'grinding' in the game, some of those areas feel pretty repetitive. MotB is kinda fun but I never finished it, and SoZ just seems silly.

Finally, mods. Both BG2 and NWN2 have hundreds of very high quality modifications, to make them more stable, add NPC's or encounters, fix the interface, change your / enemy AI, or just the colour of your socks, and NWN2 has loads of modules that completely overshadow the vanilla story.

I actually preferred BG1 to BG2 for a long time, but am now beginning to enjoy them about the same. Just make a decision. There isn't a right one and a wrong one.
