Quick Recap:
I purchased a digital copy of DAII on 8/8/2011 through Games for Windows Marketplace. Because of many other games through Steam/Xbox 360 and major life changes I didn't get around to playing this one until now (I know crazy right, but I wasn't worried about it because I have the registration codes and the game registered under my account).
Little did I know that this is where digital distribution fails! So I install the game, hit Play and get a prompt to "Activate Your Game". I log in with my EA/Origin Account sucessfully and the login prompts me to "Enter a Product Key". So I copy and paste my Game Activation Key (not the Live Access Code, which I also have) ino the key input box and it says: "Product Key Already Used".
After giving all my info to the EA Onlive text chat they customer service rep types the following to me:
Anil: [/b]I have checked the code and found that it has already been registered with an account which domain is "@libero.it".
you: [/b]??? not me at all
Anil: [/b]So,its not possible to reregister the code again.
you: [/b]not
that I can find anywhere - I just get the old game keys (from digital
distro) in my games for windows marketplace and the options are Play or
Uninstall.
you: [/b]nothing about re-registering with my EA/Orgin/Windows account.
Anil: [/b]I'm still looking into your issue. Thanks for your patience.
Anil: [/b]Thank you for waiting.
Anil: [/b]I am afraid Jeremy,Had it been possible I would have definitely processed your request.
Anil: [/b]Thank you for contacting EA. Is there anything else I can help you with today?
you: [/b]What? That's it? Just sorry your game won't work anymore?
you: [/b]See I guess here is the problem with digital distribution and not having the physical discs with codes on the manuals, etc.
you: [/b]I would have never registered anything under "@libero.it", since that is the first time I've ever seen it.
Anil: [/b]Would you mind holding for a couple of minutes while I fetch some relevant information?
you: [/b]mp
you: [/b]np
Anil: [/b]Thank you.
Anil: [/b]I am araid Jeremy.I searched again into our database it is registered to some other account.
Anil: [/b]Had it been possible I would have definitely processed your request.
Anil: [/b]
you: [/b]so what do I do if that's not me? How do I get if fixed or reregistered?
Anil: [/b]Thank you for contacting EA. Is there anything else I can help you with today?
you: [/b]I paid $50 for this game and can't even play it
Anil: [/b]I understand your concern Jeremy, but whatever I could do.I did.
you: [/b]wow
Anil: [/b]Okay, may I have your code please so that I may check it and assist you further?
you: [/b]its the one I already sent you that you said was registered under a strange domain: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX (yes I XXX'd this one out but I guess it would not have mattered anyway because its invalid now)
you: [/b]from Games for Windows Marketplace
Anil: [/b]Okay, the game is registered on another account with the domain as @libero.it, can you verify it?
you: [/b]I have no idea who or what "@libero.it" is - never heard or seen that until today.
Anil: [/b]May I know from where you have purchased your game?
you: [/b]Games for Windows Marketplace
you: [/b]Its in my downloads list until full games, purchased on 8/8/2011
Anil: [/b]As much as I would like to help, since these cissue is retailer specific, the retailer needs to be contacted.
Anil: [/b]Thank you for contacting EA. Is there anything else I can help you with today?
To top it off Games for Windows Marketplace states it "is a software registration issue that needs to be addressed by EA/Bioware", they don't have control over Product Keys.
So one group will point to the other meanwhile I'm ripped off and lost $50 and some hacker somewhere is probably enjoying my copy of DAII. Moral of the story, don't wait that long to register your digital version of a game or just buy the hard copy so only you have the codes and the physical disc.
No more digital games for me through EA/Origin/Games for Windows marketplace from now on, I'm uninstalling both services (Origin and Games for Windows Marketplace). I'll stick with Steam because they have never let me down.
Thanks,
~J
PS: Sorry for the wall of text - had to include the not so helpful text chat that took over 30 mins!
