While I was extremely disappointed with DA2, I had hopes that ME3 would not fall under the same curse. Learned my lesson well :/

Not me. I was severely disappointed with DA2 initially because I only had DA:O as a comparison. After awhile I realized DA2 wasn't really a bad game, it was just a poor sequel to a really GREAT game. If I had never played DA:O I probably would have loved DA2.

Even then, though, I would NEVER swear off buying a game just because of one poor title.

Dragon Age 2 was a horrid abomination, yes. And I *almost* didn't buy ME3 because of the direction I felt Bioware was going in. I preordered it the day before it came out because I got swept up in the hype.

Now, thanks to ME3, I am truly skeptical if I'm going to purchase another Bioware product.

After I crawled my way through DA2, which to me was an abortion of a (RPG)story, I thought I needed ME3 to wash the dissapointment. I was so looking forward to this...
Guess how did that turn out :-I

But I have to mention that atleast 60% of the game is excellence.
Truth is even a grain of excrement can spoil a taste of a woderful meal.

Okay I finished NWN 2  a month ago and other than some similarities I fail to see how DA:O is a cheap rip off of NWN 2.

DA:O is NOT a cheap rip off of NWN in any form. However it is a blatant rip off of LotR. Even the Darkspawn LOOK like the orcs and horde of LotR, and the endless questing for armies to fight the Archdemon/Eye of Soron.

Nope. I think I remember saying something along the lines of "Dragon Age II doesn't bode well for Mass Effect 3, and it seriously makes me worry for Bioware as a whole". I wish I could dig up what I actually said. Something similar on the Dragon Age forums.

Honestly, after DA2, I said that ME3 would propably be the last Bioware I game buy. As much as I hated and loathed DA2, I knew that I had to see the end of ME.

But ME3 basicly revived my faith in Bioware. One of the best games I've played, best one in the series and a great ending. Suprised me that part of a huge soulless commercial entertaiment empire could end the series so beautifully and thought provokingly. Don't care for Hollywood endings, which is what the idiot masses seem to be demanding.

Was ME3 a mediocre piece of trash? (Which I loved btw lol.) Dissapointing? Sure, but that's because it was so damn awesome before the end.

I liked DA2 as well.

This ^

But to answer your question -  Half the forum

Gamers are fickle

There are people in here who swore blind they would never buy another Bioware game after ME2 abandoned the RPG elements of the series. They now have DA2 and ME3 badges under their avatar.

And lets not forget the millions who "Cancelled their Pre-orders"

I liked, didn't love DA2.

Never went back for DLC because it didn't engage me completely. The Kirkwall environment felt cheap and lazy to me (since I never left it!) so I didn't really want to play it again.

But it was fine. Never once considered ditching ME3 because of that.

However, the ending debacle of ME3 is the first time I've had pause.

I never completed NWN 2, because I felt it sucked. I didn't play DA 2 but completed DA:O. I was OK with DA:O, the introductions into the characters were the best I ever played. However, I really, REALLY hate **** gameplay when you have a **** magic character and every hostile dude just **** ignores everything to **** get to your mage and **** smack him down. And it works because they just can bypass all the other friendly guys with no harm suffered.
I remember fantasy gameplay back in the days of Baldur's Gate to be decent.
But generally i think, fantasy setting just bores me totally off. I've had my fill of it and that's why I never touched DA 2 and why I won't ever touch it.

DA2 is a crappy game,

but i like and still enjoy the story, which is sometimes hit and miss.
Its memorable and it expanded the Dragon age universe in interesting ways.

ME3 was by no means perfect but i would have still enjoyed it if it were not for that cluster**** at the end.

Ok who said after dragon age 2 that they would never buy a bioware product again and then bought ME3?

I never said that because I have stopped hyping games for myself before they are released.  And I don't read "reviews" until i'm done playing.

I didn't read anything about DA2 other than playing the demo at PAX.  Same with SWTOR  and same with ME3.  And you know what?  I am finding i'm enjoying my gaming experience MUCH more.

It's like when i was younger, and went to the store, walked through the "video games" section looking at the boxes, and picking one that looked interesting to me.  That's how I found Baldur's Gate, and Planescape Torment, and Morrowind.  Then i took them home, opened them up, put the CD in the drive...and played.

Then, i moved from the sticks to the city, got a high-speed connection, found WoW and forums and blogs and sites and reviews...and I became angrier and angrier at games that didn't meet expectations.  But they weren't MY expectations they weren't meeting, they were expectations I had adopted based on hype of the "community".

Once I realized this, I stopped.  I stopped coming here unless it was to talk about a game I'd already played.  Or look for nightmare/insanity mode strategies, or help with a quest.

I don't read metacritic or kotaku or the blogs by people who have no credentials other than being angry at the world.

It's amazing how disconnecting yourself from forums and blogs and "game sites" raises the fun factor of games.  It allows you to play a game and take it for what it IS, rather than what it's "SUPPOSED TO BE".

That's how I played DA2 and enjoyed it.  That's how I played ME3 and enjoyed it up till the last 10 minutes (though it was hard not to see the ending hubub, since it made it to major non-gaming news outlets).  That's how I play SWTOR.  That's how I plan to live my gaming life from now on:  Making my OWN impressions and not relying on some angry 19-year-old with a trolling habit to tell me what I "should" think.

After Dragon Age II, I said "HURRY UP WITH THE EXPANSION ALREADY."

And then they canceled it. I hope it rains in Canada tomorrow and their socks and shoes are all soaking wet when they come into the office and it takes the entire day for them dry out and the whole building smells like stinky wet feet.

So it's your fault that it's been raining here for the past day! (I live in Calgary so I'm just a few hours south of Edmonton...by the way, they're only cloudy there. Hope harder, maybe they'll get the rain instead!)

Anyways, since I have every console Bioware release of this generation except for ME1, I can say that none of the games' flaws have caused me to refuse to pick up another. DA2 was enjoyable, though not as good as DA:O, and I absolutely loved ME3, it was a ton of fun (and my second favorite game in the series, ME1 holding 1st place...not that I dislike any of them) and well worth my money. Sure there were flaws and Bioware should've done something far more similar to DA:O's ending for the ending of ME3 (not just the epilogue slides, I mean the whole concept...it would've been better from a writing standpoint...Note: this is all personal opinion, after all, people will probably judge my writing the same way), but I still loved it and found it was worthwhile (a minority, I'm sure).

So, I'll be picking up Dragon Age 3 and Command and Conquer Generals 2, as well as contemplating The Old Republic, however I will not preorder again. Not due to Bioware, but Rocksteady and Warner Brothers. However, that's a completely different topic.

I agree with you 100%. A lot of the disappointment people felt at the end of ME3 was exacerbated by coming to forums like the BSN, where the disappointment evolved into a kind of mass hysteria and a feeling of being personally wronged. In some ways, I wonder if the way it evolved actually diminshed the issues with the game being taken seriously at first as non-gamers/people ok with the ending felt they were just behaving a little silly.

I enjoyed Dragon Age 2. My biggest complaint about DA2 was the reused environments (something that I also disliked from the first Mass Effect). Other than that, I loved the characters, the more personal story, and several of the changes made to the combat (particularly the increased responsiveness of attack and spell activations).

With that said, I also enjoyed Mass Effect 3. While I was a bit disappointed with the ending, I liked just about everything else.
