This has never happened before in over 5 years of owning the game or console:
- I start the game, everything works
- I hit "continue" or "load career"
- The usual load screen shows for the usual length of time
- Black screen, sometimes with the littl radar outlined in the bottom corner
What's going on?
I've done about 10 web searches but suprise suprise they've only netted ME3 tech support with how bug-ridden that game is.
Mass effect 1 - Xbox 360 - load career failed

After the tech forums all pretty much died totally from May of 2011 onward, I began letting questions such as yours sit for 24 hours before saying I couldn't help, and why not try the Official EA Support, because once in awhile a few other PC gamers besides myself occasionally dropped in. But not Xbox people. That crowd came and went on the old Legacy forums, and hardly any of you visited here when the old forums were shut down.
Thus, I feel pretty secure in saying your chances of a fix from among the few live readers are very slender. About all we've got is PC people, plus a few brand new Xbox players who haven't been playing long enough to know as much about the game as you do.

I've had that happen on the Xbox before, and I don't quite remember how I resolved it. One or both of 2 things may have happened IIRC: 1) I had to load an earlier save and play through a little bit of the game over again (luckily I save frequently - I hope you do too?) because it was just a randomly buggy save point, and/or 2) It was shortly before the GPU had a meltdown and I had to send it out. I actually suspect that playing ME1 for hours on end fried the already frail GPU, but it was also a Falcon board in the old 360 Pro.
Also possible but much less likely - it was after I replaced the Xbox and had to do all sorts of stuff to get my old game saves to register. This really shouldn't have anything to do with the black screen issue, but nonetheless I always recommend doing a full game install to your HDD for ME1 on the Xbox, even the newer ones. It helps everything run more smoothly. Also it can never hurt to clear your cache when problems come up (go to console settings>storage> and it should have the option to "perform maintenence" in there somewhere).
