Chief Priestly, I have not been able to verify a few functions of Origin now that I have it installed.

1) If I already own Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2, can I still redeem the codes to create a digital version, even if they were originally installed on a computer that didn't have Origin?

2) If I create a digital version of Mass Effect 1 on Origin using my laptop, can I then install/play Mass Effect 1 on my desktop PC using Origin?

3) If I play Mass Effect 1 through Origin on my laptop, will my save file be backed up in Origin, or does it stay with the computer?  In other words, could I pick up where I left off when I sit down at my desktop?

I cannot seem to find an FAQ or thread that answers these specific questions.  Thank you in advance.

 1) Have you tried "Redeem product code" in Origin (via gear icon) ? There's also this

If you have an older game title, such as The Sims 2, Spore, or any other titles released before 2008, you may need to redeem the code through this website: activate.ea.com/applyentitlement.do

2) From Origin FAQ:

Q: Is there a limit to the number of computers on which I can install my game?

A: Origin enables you to access your games from any PC, anytime, anywhere. Should you have an issue, contact Origin Support and we'll get you fixed right up!

3)  I would think that once you play, save & exit, the origin client would show that it is "cloud syncing" in progress.

Added info:

Last – but certainly not least – Origin 8.5 extends cloud storage options to a number of new games, including Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and the upcoming Mass Effect 3. Save to the cloud to access in-game progress from any Origin-enabled PC.

To answer your 3rd question, you need to have the Cloud Sync enabled, if not just go to Documents>BioWare>Mass Effect>Save. Copy and paste onto your desktop.

Oops, yeah, what ThiZZo said. Gear Icon > settings > general tab, "enable cloud storage for all supported games".

I appreciate the answers, especially regarding the cloud storage, but I still haven't had any luck redeeming my retail key for Mass Effect 1 in Origin.  I have no idea why.

Mass Effect 1 came out in 2007, so try using:  activate.ea.com/applyentitlement.do

Otherwise, you may have to contact EA support (try phone support first though.)

I ended up having to talk to EA support three separate times. How long I've had the retail game, not having a Pogo account but having seven different "personas" registered on my EA profile, the fact that EA classic, EA Account, and Origin all have to be linked, etc.... It was overly complex, but at least it's resolved. Thanks to EA Support for their diligence on the matter. Maybe EA's not the "worst company in the world" after all. LOL

Mass Effect 1 didn't support the EA Download Manager, which is now Origin. Later BioWare games do.
