So lets go out on a limb and we discover that from Priority Earth onwards was a really vividly told joke by EDI.
Back on the Normandy before the real assault on Earth Shepard turns to EDI after having been told this "joke" with everything from the Conduit to Star-Jar.
Shepard just looks at EDI and says "EDI... this humour thing. Needs work - The joke... it sucks. Hard."
EDI responds with "Thank you Shepard, I will revise my understandings and try again later."
And then we're back to square one.
