I have a hypothesis that those rolls are actually the antenna system that allows EDI to control the body remotely.

Because of the body's construction materials, external antennae are required for long-distance operation. Their placement was determined by engineering efficiency, and the unfortunate resemblance to certain human body parts is entirely accidental.

I'd totally pick destroy then. You'll have the Clint Mansell music that has been mutilated by Sam Hulick, Joker looking around for no reason, and EDI screaming and gasping as the Normandy gets tossed about by the energy beam.

Except it's not part of the body. We can see her naked body is smooth on her default appearance. But when she snaps on her catsuits, she's suddenly all bumpy.

Maybe it's a emergency flotation device. If the ship lands in water, they inflate to form a raft that the crew can use to safely make it to shore.
