It would f*ck things up on so many levels that the supposed advantages would never outweight the problems caused by forcing it on everyone with zero warning.

Think of the *justified* mass panic it would cause. I mean, if you suddenly start glowing green, I think you have every right to be freaked out.

Everything we think we know about biology and medicine gets thrown out the window. How many people will die when they need medical treatment because we don't understand these fundamental changes to life?

If you gave me the choice to implement these changes for myself, I might actually accept them if I knew exactly what I was getting into. But if someone tries to force them on me against my will, I would tell them in no uncertain terms to go screw themselves.

I expect mass suicides at first out of fear followed by joy when we realize these upgrades are, actually, very benefitial.

Beneficial according to who?

I agree on the mass suicides, though. No one is going to be cool with seeing circuitry under their skin all of a sudden.

And what would you do when they immediately told you to get the hell off of them, and started screaming blood murder?

Who the hell knows how we'd react? We have no idea how much the tech would affect our minds/personalities. >_<

It would be an unmitigated disaster. Suicides, chaos, death, destruction. Probably severe political upheaval as everyone tries to put their lives together.

Whatever "benefits" we might receive from this would not be worth such a horror.

I think the idea is all of those things have been "programmed" out of us...

Implications unpleasant...

Assuming that I knew what happened, I would be ask questions like does this mean we can bang computers and have offspring? If so that would be intriguing but highly disturbing.

Everytime an organic was implanted with Reaper technology, he or she received great physical benefits at the expense of free will. Saren, Paul Grayson, Husks, Cerberus troops.
Legion's use of Reaper Code proved that the opposite is also possible. Reaper Code used to give all geth true identity.
Therefore, it is not outside of the realm of possibility for Synthesis to grant physical benefits without the loss of free will.

The better question is If I make fun of an ICBM will the guidance computer in it get so depressed as to detonate itself as a suicide attempt?

What does this mean for my cat?

My toaster has never talked to me but it does have a "Smart Toast" setting if it grew lungs and a beak how would this affect my toast? Would it refuse to make toast and take up smoking instead? If so who's going to pay it's medical bills? Or would it be repair bills? Do I take it to a doctor or an electrician and if I do should I get it an organ transplant or a capacitor?

Would a vibrator still be a sex toy or would it be a boyfriend? What gender is a vibrator anyway? What would it eat, I mean I know what it will be eating most of the time but in it's off hours? It's got some time between shifts would it grab a pizza and if so does the pizza have any say in the matter?

What if my credit card uses itself of fraudulent purchases but it's running the scam with my smartphone and I can't contact my credit card company what do I do?

Would a hamburger be more or less tasty if the cow had glowy circuit boards? I bite a circuit board once it was a bit metallic so would I have to tenderize it? If so would my meat tenderizer object since it became a buddhist monk?

So many questions . . .

Immortality would cause serious population growth issues...
Old life must die so new life can take its place...

Unless everyone is sterile...

I'd think "Cool, glowing eyes!" However, you're asking the wrong question. We already have cyborgs (for lack of a better word) - people with artificial components, like prosthetics, etc. And we have already imagined it, so it wouldn't be that big an adjustment to discover our fantasy stories have come to life.

Imagine an aboriginal tribe, someone who still thinks a photograph has the power to steal their souls. Now imagine they were also changed, getting glowing green eyes and weird markings on their bodies. You can bet they would freak out. Demonic possession, a curse from their deity, or some kind of status marking showing who is superior in their society - you can bet that any or all of these would be common explanations in their society for what happened to them.

So you're saying it would be the greatest episode of Jackass in universe history.

"Today...we're gonna stuff a banana up Garrus' butt to see if it causes him to go into anaphylactic shock! Get the epi-pens ready...cause it's Jackass!"

I just realized Eve's whole plan for dealing with a post genophage Krogan society involved returning to the old ways, away from the technology that made their lives too easy...

I mean, in theory it would raise the Krogan's attrition rate and be a more natural counterbalance...
But Synthesis kind of messes that up...

The krogan are not going to go back to the wildnress of Tuchanka. Wrex already requested rights to a colony world.
I just hope he doesn't decide that world has to be Earth after that little incident with the Mass Relays...exploding.

On further reflection, I would drive up to the mountains and barricade myself and my family until the initial insanity passes. Or drive away said madness with shotguns.

Also, if I'm part machine, does that mean I electrocute myself in the shower?
