I honestly could not chose synthesis in ME3. It seemed attractive at first.. if I could do it to just myself and people who want it why not. But doing it to the whole ME galaxy, with it's crazy tech, its diversity, all the weird people I've grown attached to.

In the real world however? No such problems. Go for it!

Oh no I can live forever...how awful. -_-

Well, there's a lot of fiction on the whole concept of immortality. Many of them have rather severe implications. Psychosis and evilness generally ensue.

And if you have any belief in a deity, living forever in a corporeal form makes meeting your creator nearly impossible. You can't go to Heaven when you can't die.

I'd think I wouldn't be too happy. But then we'd all hold hands and every problem would be solved because we all have glowing eyes or something,

So here we are, humanity, a  pre-spacefaring species, just minding our own business.
Then, out of nowhere, big green light Boom! We are all involved in a symbiotic relationship with alien technology.

I am curious what people would do since so many appear to have such a visceral hate for Synthesis.

First  I'd have to work out exactly what the hell that meant since I am apparently no longer organic or synthetic but still have DNA. Then yeah, I'd be pretty pissed someone mutilated my DNA and not too happy with whoever did it. Like, Tsar Bomba not happy.

Live forever? Even if made possible by space magic, still gotta watch out for floods, hurricanes, tornados, tsunamis, earthquakes....

And what would you do when they immediately told you to get the hell off of them, and started screaming blood murder?

Kiss them and start exchanging info.

On further reflection, I would drive up to the mountains and barricade myself and my family until the initial insanity passes. Or drive away said madness with shotguns.

Mmm. This, probably. Except I get the idea at least half my family would insist on being part of the madness.

When things cooled down a bit, I would come back and try and teach them all the cool new stuff we can do (that I figured out 'cause I was hunkering down in the mountains instead of trying to find the nearest jug of "special" kool-aid). Except they'd probably only want to learn the parts that have to do with sex and violence, and then I'd wonder why I ever thought the physical change might mean a psychological one, too.

it would be the end of everything we knew, mass suicides and would occur with those who are still able to maintain a will while the rest would slowly fall in line with brainwashing and controlling. As it is we're very easy to manipulate all you have to do is add some tech that affects your biology some way and you would have an army of super soldiers, unquestioning, loyal to the death and expendable and that would be how the human race died.

I don’t know how to answer this. Supposing that synthesis doesn’t fundamentally change my personality (including my emotions) then my answer is dependant on what it actually does. Would I be smarter? Dumber? Live longer, the same, less, significantly longer or significantly less? Would I be able to have children? Would I have fewer limitations or more? Assuming that the pros outweigh the cons, then I would gladly accept it. Otherwise, I don’t know.

That being said, I never had an issue with synthesis itself. My issue with the synthesis ending is I do not—and will never—feel as if I have the right to choose something like that for everyone else.

OP, your post made me think Deus Ex: Human Revolution.  I'd expect some similar dissent between two sides for and against it if it ever happened.

I would be upset if Synthesis happened, of course, but I wouldn't kill myself over it.  I just hope we keep emotions and all that good stuff that makes everyone human/organic.

Don't know what I'd do quite frankly. I don't like Synthesis mainly because it involves messing around with things that are not 100% understood. No one knows how it happens, what it will do or what it affects. The same can be said about it happening in real life, quite frankly it would be similar to deus ex and augmentations. Isn't evolution supposed to happen naturally? What happens when organisms are forced to evolve? It is a very big unknown and that is why I don't like it.

1. Inventory my emergency disaster preps and ammo.

2. Activate my family emergency plan.

3. Keep up with any news from various sources.

4. Help get our small community organized.

In other words, like any other SHTF scenario.

as i have said "what do people eat in Synthesis? how does this affect animals? are there nano mechanical parts that are impossible to get out of the beef? or is it clear where to cut? does this affect flavor? and what about plants? is it safe to eat lettuce now? is the glowy thingy harmful to health?"

I'm guessing synthesis makes everyone have wireless telepathy. I'd be trolling everyone wirelessly.

I would be surrounding my self with lead. Lot's of lead.

But I'd expect mass suicides and some serious religious consequences from this that would likely lead to some degree of heavy warfare and possible extinction.

On a personal level I'd be all meh and go watch a movie or read or something.

Unfortunately i wouldn't likely be able to do anything as i like everyone else would be reduced to a drone like lifeform with no higher thought processes.
