It would f*ck things up on so many levels that the supposed advantages would never outweight the problems caused by forcing it on everyone with zero warning.

Think of the *justified* mass panic it would cause. I mean, if you suddenly start glowing green, I think you have every right to be freaked out.

Everything we think we know about biology and medicine gets thrown out the window. How many people will die when they need medical treatment because we don't understand these fundamental changes to life?

If you gave me the choice to implement these changes for myself, I might actually accept them if I knew exactly what I was getting into. But if someone tries to force them on me against my will, I would tell them in no uncertain terms to go screw themselves.

This...

And the continued speculating about how all will be sunshine and roses and it will have no downsides is "Lets all ride unicorns and eat ice cream" happy land.

This pretty much sums up the idiocy of your typical nerd.

I will happily be a nerd that defends diversity and campaigns against things that threaten it. The little siblings of Synthesis are Racism and Homophobia. And THAT is why it is so morally objectional.

Being unique is what defines us. You're talking about forcing everyone into the same homogenised state of being. That's not a future, its an end. An end to culture, an end to advancement, an end to life. Instead, there would just be existence.

So... yeah. Cram your transhumanism. I'll stay me, and be better for it.

i hereby award you an Internets.

Oh for god's sake.  How can you still not get it?  How simply do I have to put it?  It's a 'coping mechanism'.  Being outraged doesn't simply mean complaining all the time (there will still be some complaing naturally).  How about I put it like this.  Would you tell someone who has incurable cancer that they shouldn't be devastated or outraged?

Again you may not find anything wrong with what happend, but a great many will.  And to say that they will be outraged isn't to say that is all they will be or ever be.  Some may learn to cope, some may end it all and others may actively seek to change it.  The real point is that it's not acceptible to everyone regardless of a handful of neat little superpowers.

*shakes head* I am not sure you have any other ways to explain this. Try this..

Another way to phrase the original question is...

Someone gave everyone in the world white skin and oval shaped eyes against their will. They figured this would stop wars. Do you think everyone is just going to be okay with it?

I'd freak out first. I'd be confused, scared and worried. I'd probably not recognize the green glowing bits until a day later (I'd be a nervous wreck).

Two weeks later someone would hack my kidneys. Three weeks later my uretha shuts down. Four weeks later I die cause I forgot to charge my lungs or something.

I'd probably be pissed at whosever decided to alter my very genetic code without even warning me about it.

Mass suicides.

After that, it depends on what the synthetic parts do.

Although I would think a lot of people would be asking "How the hell?" along with me.

I would like a warning so that I could be near something cool and then blended with it and not a toaster...

For all the people saying "mass suicides" would synthesis even allow you to do that?

Would we become like the geth and be forced to value self-preservation over all else?

A lot of people claim that it would just change people's DNA, but leave their personality/individuality perfectly intact.  Simply put, this isn't possible.

Let's use an analogy: Legion's loyalty mission.  The virus the Heretics were going to use altered a single program, and this changed all higher processes.  Changing a core process would fundamentally alter the geth's decision making and 'personality'.

The same thing would happen if you start messing with DNA.  Changing a person's DNA, at least on the level required for this synthesis of organic and synthetic, will change everything else.  Your personality may be more than just the coding in your DNA, but you can bet it is influenced by it.  Changing your DNA will change your personality.  You will no longer be "You".  If that is the case, I don't care what the supposed benefits are, forcing this change on people is unacceptable.

I would not be happy. Perhaps it would be my supervillain origin story, where I go out of my way to prove that synthesis is not a solution by trying to wipe out all life <.<
