I wonder how can manage to establish a refined and original scenario with openworld, while they already messed up in the last two games.

Exploration like BG1 & 2 or NWN 1 & 2 would be good and allow the story to remain coherent. IMHO.

Words you took them from my mouth.

I agree. I actually hope they bring BG type exploration back.

Through effort and focus on making a great game.

I honestly think DA3 doesn't need a completely original scenario as much as it needs a well executed one, a cliche story that is pulled off well beats a daring new one that falls flat, IMO. BG or NWN2:SoZ style exploration are both worth looking into(if DA3 is more non-linear), or give us a limited area to explore per act (if DA3 is more linear) similar to NWN.

No, I like the more linear, story focused games that bioware does. Open world games like skyrim get boring pretty quickly.

I wouldn't mind seeing it like Dark Souls. I still want a party camp though

I'm not sure Bioware can do open-world.

I love open-world and randomly generated areas in games. However I like having a party and interesting companions far more so...it would depend on how open/limiting such a game was in both areas.

Perhaps like Fable 2? That, I wouldn't mind.

I'm not sure how a dragon age 3 would work in open world, i liked skyrim but the story let it down. I was thinking something like the nwn maps could work, in da2 it was just kirkwall and re-used areas in nwn you had a few defined maps. If da2 had say... 2 other cities the game would have been miles better, saying that its not cost/production friendly maybe.
The beauty of skyrim was going through a door and most of the time it was different, areas were re-used for replayability/bounties though. Fallout 3 did an amazing job as far as open ended goes, nothing ever felt repetitive and what you came across was new imo it was a far better experience than skyrim. The main goal was so simple yet they merged everything you did so well. I used to go into the school just to grab more ammo and have a search lol.

The combat in da2 was fun, overpowered and flashy, i love the trees keep them, balance the combat out between da1 and 2. Let us give our companions all sorts of armour it really gives tons of immersion to gameplay, people like stats and choices all this with classes makes it so replayable.

Please make it single player.
If there is any mp make it optional.
Will we be importing saves or is this a new arc (sigh).
Keep the things that made origin great, bioware know what they are i hope they have the freedom to do it.

No. It works in the Elder Scrolls, but not Dragon Age.

Yeah - that's more the sort of thing I had in mind, not necessarily like Skyrim.
I'd just really like to get away from the whole travel-by-map thing.

Imagine how awsome it would be if they combined the bonfires in DS with the party camp in Origins.

I think the ideal is always BG2, and while BG2 was not open world, it really gave you a feeling that was quite similar, because it was just so big and awesome. Obviously DAO did that also to a significant degree. Thats what they should go for, not something all the way out there, Skyrim style, just big and awesome like BG2 and DAO. Thats what works best in these types of games. Maybe they could find some way to take it to an extra level of 'feeling' like its open world even though it isnt, kind've like how KOTOR made you feel like you were playing an action RPG when you were actually playing a turn based one. But the bottom line is that BG2 style > Skyrim style for DA3.

I find it easy to get lost and frustrated with open world games. I don't want something entirely linear but I do like having my hand held a bit

It seems Bioware of late wants to be anything but the Bioware they were known for.
Fast paced action, button maching, deep endings that now need extended cuts to clarify, story riddled with plot holes, choises that do not matter anymore.
Why indeed should we not ad open ending to the list.
I quess a good old fashion RPG from the good old times is to much to ask for these days.

I don't want it to be open world, Dragon Age has a lot of thing stablished, and big changes aren't generally taken well. Bigger maps and fewer loading screens would be great, but sand box game? Only in a spin off, perhaps.

I'd like them to use the Dragon Age: Origins model with your ideas.  I think that would be a perfect mesh without losing the fans who don't want the sandbox feel.

Maybe if the game gave the illusion of being opened world than maybe. Being a true sandbox/open world game like Infamous, Prototype, Skyrim, or Batman Arkham City though no thank you. I honestly think that when they mentioned looking at Skyrim they meant that they are looking at how the game handle things in a smaller scope like npc interactions, quests, and the like.

I hope DA3 is NOTHING like Skyrim. Not the worst game ever, but a whole different proposal.

It doesn't need to be open-world.

It just needs a bigger, more varied game world and a better exploration than DA2.

Which, frankly, shouldn't be too difficult.

Open world like TES games.......No.
I'd rather have something like the Witcher 1&2. Big open areas, but not completely a completely open world.

Just make the maps like something like in Baldurs Gate. The narrow labyrinths we experienced in DA2 is so boring.

I liked how BG1 & 2 did it and I liked how NWN2 did it. I couldn't get into NWN1 because of the lack of companion interaction (we're talking OC here, not the expansions).

In BG1 & 2, you had a big map and you could explore the whole thing, clearing the fog of war as if you were cutting the grass. In the process, you'd find all kinds of side-quests (especially in BG1) and unique encounters (I'm looking at you, Drizzt!). So yeah, exploration. Also, contained. What I don't like is a big world with nothing in it. Vistas are great, but I can only take so much scenery without wanting to fight and/or talk to someone. And when the area is cleared of all unique encounters and all the associated side-quests are done, I'm done with the area, too. I've got better things to do than grinding for XP.

Sure, I don't want to be stuck in the same five maps for the whole game, but I also don't want to have to cross five "empty field" maps to get where I need to be for the next quest.

What would be cool is if new quests/encounters spawned after the area was already visited. As an example, there was no real reason to go back to the tavern in Redcliffe after the battle (assuming you didn't own it). It would have been fun if more quests happened there later (more substantial than delivering a letter).

Edit: *Level*. That's the word I was looking for. In BG1 et al, you had a big level that you could explore with respawns and unique encounters. The "map" was what you used to navigate from one area to another. I must be getting old.

To a certain extent, hell yes. Something along the lines of Baldurs Gate 2. That would be really amazing..
