 I'm having trouble with my login details - my email address and password are treated as invalid. I'm lucky that this website actually remembers me - if I had to try to login again it wouldn't work!

I'd go through the normal means for password resetting, but the email address I use has just been cancelled due to another issue, so I can't access it. I was intending to change the email address linked to this account, but without a functioning password that obviously can't happen either!

I need to keep this account - all my DLC and games are linked to it.

If you can't get it working you would have to contact EA support as they handle these sort of issues. As long as you can prove who you are, birthdate, address, etc they should be able to modify the account for you.

So - I can't log in to origin, so my options are pretty limited on that page - should I set up another account just to contact them or should I directly contact a particular email address?

Yeah, I would just create a temporary account using a secondary email address.

So now I can't use the contact page to actually contact them - the options to contact remain greyed out no matter what I pick from the drop-down menu above... all other possible links redirect back to the same page!

Did you enter in a product? I would type Mass Effect 3 and category "Account/Registration".
