Witcher 2... then Dark Souls if you want to play on console... I heard bad rumors about PC version of DS.

What did you hear?

The main one seems to be it will require Games for Windows Live. The other is that the textures won't be that good for PC. Might be other rumors, but those are the two I caught.

^This, and minimal support for mouse and keyboard.

30FPS lock, and supposedly no visual difference between the PS3 & PC.

among these three, I only bought witcher 2. This game is beautiful but has boring gameplay imo. Amalur's demo totally turned me off. I'm still waiting this game to hit bargain bin. I am quite interested in dark souls since the gameplay looks fantastic, but will wait and see if the game's control is optimized for mouse and keyboard when it's released for PC.

I just picked up Witcher 2 for 360; so far its pretty good but don't be mistaken: it is very RPG-ish (at least coming from ME3). There's stupid amounts of loot, a ton of crafting stuff with said loot, and the action is not quite as good as DA:2, but definitely better than DA:O. Graphically, it is surprisingly decent considering it is clearly a big game. Lastly, the only drawback is that it is the standard, played out, human vs. elf vs. dwarf routine. ME and Read Dead Redemption had caused me to forget how tired I was of that formula. I give it a thumbs up, though.

I have all 3 and can recomended them all Kingdoms of Amalur is good I loved the story

Witcher 2 I just started playing it and within 3 mins I was hooked the combat is great and story is just as good

Dark Souls can really make you pull your hair out as others have said it is one hard game

as with many I can also highly recomend Deus Ex: Human Revolution while it can be hard at times its so much fun you will just get hooked and want to keep going till you finish it plus there are so many different mods and upgrades on the game that you never get bored

something else I would recomend is LA Noire while its got it fault its an amazing game and being a 1940s cop in LA is cool

I have all three ^^

But, uh, probably the one that might last the longest is Reckoning. It's got flashier combat than the Elder Scrolls series and some replayability if you want to try all the classes. Though you'll probably want to skip most of the dialogue. If it's not the main story or a faction quest, you're not missing much. It mostly lore, but if you're into that there shouldn't be problems.

If you like a challenge, then Witcher 2 and Dark Souls could last you a while. Witcher 2's Insane mode, if you die, that's it. Dark mode I hear is challenging until you get the dark gear. But it sounds pretty cool, I might even try it myself.

Dark Souls is just insane after NG+. On NG++ and beyond, your stats won't save you. You need to rely on your action combat skills.

I need a new game, but I can only afford one.  The Witcher 2 seems really good, but after ME3, which was emotionally draining, I really just want something that has great combat and most importantly is fun to play.  Dark Souls is intriguing, but I get the sense its uber difficult and dark and I'm not sure I want something thats stressful to play.  Reckoning seems fun, but is it worth the price?

Anyone have any input on how these titles stack up to one another?  Critic reviews are useless.....Or if anyone has any other recommendations.  If only Skyrim had good combat I'd just stick with that but the mechanics of Bethesda games I find turrible.

I don't recommend Deus Ex. I bought it thinking I'd enjoy it but the shooting mechanics are very different and downright awkward. I found myself fighting the controls more often than actually enjoying the game.

I'd go with Witcher 2 and Alpha Protocol.

Witcher 2 is a fantastic game, I still load up Dark Souls now and then - play for about 4 hours, make 20 minutes worth of progress. Rage, and then wait two weeks before repeating.

I'm leaning toward Witcher 2, but how are the graphics on the 360? On PC it looks incredible...anyone know how well it made that transition? Looking at screenshots online doesn't really give a good indication.

Definitely get the Witcher 2. It's a fantastic game and it looks gorgeous. Don't worry CDProjekt actually did a great job. I've played the 360 version a bit (I also own the PC version) and I can say it's one of the best looking games I've ever seen on a console.

Just read this if you need further proof.

I just got Witcher 2 for PC, having a hard time getting into the combat. Haven't gotten very far into the game due to that. However, I can see the story getting old. I'm about half an hour into the game, and I'm still feeling lost. They keep mentioning stuff like the "Drizzard of Bandolt, who slew the Pheldor in Northern Zalthored." Every time I hear stuff like that, I tend to lose interest.

Dark Souls I didn't get too far into. I'm committed to beating it eventually, but the problem I have with the game is the lack of direction, and that's where it really gets its difficulty from. Right from the get go, if you head in the direction you're facing, you're going the wrong way. The combat itself isn't so difficult...IF you fight against the enemy you're SUPPOSED to be fighting against.

Kingdoms of Amalur, I grew bored with very fast. Terrible story telling...I have absolutely no interest in anything that any character is saying. The only good thing about the game is the combat...which is actually a blast to play.

Deus Ex: HR is a lot of fun to try to stealth your way through. I never got the impression it was a very good shooter, but the stealth, and the story, is actually pretty good.

Alpha Protocol is a great concept, but a disaster. It's still fun, but when it was released, it was barely playable, and it's not a ton better right now. The stealth mechanics are completely broken, the combat is sub-par, and the animations are pretty horrific. The story itself, however, is pretty awesome.

Any game with lore will have terms and characters new to the player.

Read the damn journal. If that's too much to ask for well then it's not the game for you. It's written in character as Dandelion and has a wealth of information.

No need to get defensive. If you can't see how that would put people off the game, that's your problem. Using too much jargon right off the bat and not offering any real explanations is bad design. Not saying the game is bad overall, or that I regret my purchase, just saying it's not the most welcoming to new players.

Imagine ME1 if they hadn't even shown Nihlus and didn't have the "investigate" options. "We have Turian Spectre Nihlus on board the SSV Normandy, going on a shakedown run to Eden Prime so we can recover a Prothean Beacon!" You would have had absolutely no idea what the heck was going on, or why you should care.

True that. But in TW2, there is too much story to play catch up now. New players have to content themselves with the abriged version through the journal.

You clearly don't know CDPR fanboys! They have to viciously argue against any and all implications that TW2 has even the slightest flaw. I think it's in their contract or something.

Well, between all three, The Witcher 2 is the top choice if you're looking for an adult and deep RPG experience (with adult I mean with deep, tough moral choices, not boobs)

While if you're looking for an RPG experience more aimed towards an action hack'n'slash then Amalur is your choice, with its VAST world to explore in a free roaming way.

Dark Souls sits just in the middle, but I would wait for the PC release :P

If you want a good RPG with a story go for TW2, if you want good combat and fun without a story go for KoA, have not played Dark Souls.
