A couple days ago a fan tweeted this to Patrick Weekes: "Can you answer if EC DLC will answer the question if indoc theory is true or not?"

His response? "Sorry -- any answer I give here tells people way too much. :)"

I know whenever we talk about it its always just speculation but... I don't get it. When he gets a question that is simply asking if the EC will either conform or deny the IT, HE CAN'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THAT! If the IT isn't true why doesn't Weekes just say, "Look guys, the IT was a brillian theory but its just not apart of our plans. Anything further I can't say". Then bam! He would stop getting annoying tweets from frustrated fans asking him about it. But no. Bioware continues to dodge talking about, never denies, and always makes it sound like it could be true. But if it isn't, JUST SAY SO! What's the point of making us continue to think it IS true if they then come out and say it isn't with the EC? A lot of people would be pissed.

Why? Simply because, I believe the IT is indeed true. In some way, at least. And because of that, Bioware will neither confirm nor deny its existance. Usually when you know a secret and someone asks you if the secret is true, you don't say "Yeah its true!". And you sure as hell wouldn't lie, but you would instead just politely ignore and keep repeating "I guess you'll just have to wait and see". Thereby continuing to build the anticipation.

Discuss.

Just a guess but i think they want to keep the options open and try not to ****** people off by saying exactly what is been released. If they said IT theory was wrong then think of all the IT theory people who would get upset over that and add to the current flaming.

As the angry one said, its a PR move.

Possibly. But by using this strategy, knowing the majority of the fans like the IT, if they come out and disprove it, they will have more rage on their hands. Makes sense to dish it now if it ain't true.

It gives them time to plan.

It's not their place to "correct" people on their interpretation of the game. I think they are just respecting our interpretation, be it IT or whatever.

I don't subscribe to IT, but I'm not going to tell you you are wrong if you do.

If he says the EC either confirms or disproves IT then it will anger people (either the people who support IT or the people that are against it). Keeping vague keeps everyone moderately happy/intrigued/calm.

Yeah. If they openly go out and say "No, the indoc theory is false. Just drop it" they would just be opening another can of worms. And at this point i don't think they want to brew up another sh*tstorm.

Eh. I don't buy that. Either the IT was true from the beginning or it wasn't. They wouldn't take a fan made idea. Especially since the IT isn't fan made. Its either true from the get go, or its not. They already know. There's nothing to plan. I highly doubt anyway. The IT is either dead or very much alive, and they could simply end the controversy by a simply comment. Otherwise, the EC DLC will have TONS of controversy when it is released and the IT isn't true. Odd to me.

They could lose customers (i.e. money) by confirming or denying it. That's my guess, anyway.

I ask the same question of synthesis, but we all have to deal with our personal nemesis don't we.

the IT keeps people talking about Mass Effect 3, with the backlash the ending received this isn't a bad thing because mass effect is still a topic to be discussed.

Bioware wants to keep people guessing because it's still relevant. By giving an answer either way ends the speculation, and then could in turn end the conversation.

And you wonder why they are reluctant to discuss anything with us when every little thing they say gets immediately spread around the forums and then speculated and dissected to death........just like this thread.

If you want to have a dialogue with the devs, the first step is to stop reading too much into every single post they make on sites like Twitter.

He IS right though. They've said stuff about how they won't comment and not even 5 minutes later I saw threads about "ITS CONFIRMED" and "HAHAHA YOUR THEORY IS DEAD".

Okay, okay, okay, we get the point: you believe IT is or will be true.

Hadn't we already established that we can't take tweets at face value?

I think IT will end up being partly true, partly false. The endings really do happen. But the circumstances surrounding the choice itself are much less clear.

Yeah, and just like any religion, they insist it's true and that all others are idiots. It's this intolerance I can't stand, the will to deny others their valid choices, while complaining that theirs don't matter. Damned hypocrites.

So there you have it. Are we proud of the game we made and the team that made it? Hell yes. Are we going to change the ending of the game? No.
