Or at least the ability to use a dagger or sword or something. I don't even need the ability to wear non-robe armor, I just wanna be able to use a melee weapon and cast spells, even if those spells are like.. I dunno, tier one spells like arcane bolt. I really enjoyed running around in DA:O in my Reaper's Vestments and my Spellweaver. Fun times.

To be honest, I was a bit frustrated on DAO by having to sheath the sword to cast a spell. It felt like I was taking too long to react to an attack.

i never liked arcane warrior but i always found it as an interesting class maybe they should bring back since mages are running wild anyway. My bf wants a warrior class that duel wields... he said he would like to see it cause it reminds him of his fury war in WoW lol

It could be a really fun class if it had it's own mechanics for casting spells with a weapon drawn. Being able to cast short range spells like cone of cold and then being able to shatter enemies yourself would be so satisfying.

I would be happy if mages simply got a staff talent tree like trailer!Hawke had.

To get past the sheathing weapon problem I only used spells that could be cast while weapons were drawn. So no cone of cold for me, at least in DA:O. But I'd have liked to have been able to shatter them. Though with the cross class combos I don't think we'd be allowed to.

Seconded. Arcane warrior for DAIII!

The only problem with it in DA:O was that Spellweaver's info promised us it would be a conduit for spells just like a staff. Instead we had to put it away every time we casted. Easy fix, I hope. :D

Really, the DA team could change just about anything about the Arcane Warrior specialization, and as long as they gave us Fade Shroud I'd be happy.

I hated it as it was in DA:O, only because I felt it was overpowered. I think they could make a great specialization if they were changed to a class that specialized in close-ranged staff attacks and spells that act like melee talents. Also, Combat Magic should (imo) work like blood magic or healing aura in DA2 where they must be active to use arcane warrior spells while granting big bonuses to physical stats, but forbidding the use of other spells.

I know, I know, balance doesn't matter in a single-player game. Except, I disagree.

I could maybe live with idea andar, though I dunno. D: I'd like to be able to some other spells, Spirit Healer can at least use the non-damage spells. Maybe Arcane Warrior could be restriced to non AoE-spells or something, and be unable to cast them from beyond a certain distence. (That sounds like it could be hard to code though)

It would be cool to have the Arcane Warrior specialization back in DA3. I hope they'll be more varied specializations like maybe a Magic Archer. I hope we'll get a magic archer (or something like that) in DA3!

Mages pretty much are magic archers.

You know what I mean! Being a mage but also having rogue skills like using a bow. I think there's a different name for them but the point is, there should be more varied specializations in future games.

there could be a way of having magic using warriors/rogues, bear with me a little:

let's see if i can explain myself clearly...remember fenris? his lyrium marks were basically what enabled magic use in him. now consider this...it could be possible for something similar to happen to your character.
in DA1 you went through the joining to become a grey warden, what if at the end of DA3's prologue you undergo a experiment/ritual or something that makes you a mana battery much like how gems could make shale one.
this is just an idea however so i don't expect bioware to actually go through with something like this.

also, we know that the chantry uses lyrium to make templars, templars use a kind of magic to combat mages that much we already know.
how about if the chantry is trying to come up with the next iteration of templar due to the now total war between mages/templars and you're kidnapped and used as a lab rat.
would you still forgive the ones who did this to you (if the ones responsible only did this to protect the people from what they think is the menace of mages) or would you rebel agaisnt them and join the mages cause, or do you use these new found powers for your personal gain, or even yet do you refuse to use them if you find the notion of magic abhorrent?

just a few things out the top of my head.

like i said some people won't like due to this making the PC a "special snowflake" but i kinda like these kind of characters like i like the grey wardens, spirit monks, etc.
also in my theory it's possible you wouldn't be the only one, just one of the first:wizard:

gameplay wise - basically a reversed funnel type of class choice for the player character (has magic potential but can choose to train as a warrior or rogue while supressing the innate magic talent or using it to improve the other 2 classes or maybe just concentrating on the mage aspect. the party members would be one of the 3 classes like in previous DA games.

imagine kingdom's of amalur leveling system and you get pretty much the gist of what i'm talking about.
you could pick abilities from the 3 trees (warrior/rogue/mage) and depending on how much points you put into the trees you could then select a specialization tree:

true warrior
true mage
true rogue
warrior/rogue hybrid
warrior/mage hybrid
mage/rogue hybrid
jack of all trades

While I'd love to mix the classes up completely, Bioware wants to keep the classes different and seperate. (Which is to bad IMO)

Maybe Arcane Warrior could have a pole-arm or a more melee battle-y staff.. That would still equal different weapons for each class. For magic archer they could get.. I dunno. D:

I'd generally resolve this problem by dropping a ton of CC/AOE at the beginning of the combat, then turning all my combat modes on and going to town.  Granted, with all my modes on, I had like, 10 mana.

In Dragon's Dogma, Magic Archers get a magic bow. It has no string and they use their magic to form arrows of different elements to shoot enemies. I'm not saying that Bioware should do just that, but it would be one way of pulling it off.

I'd like to see an arcane warrior that gets huge boosts to how much damage the staff attack does, and a few special staff moves.  Most of the staves in DA2 already look like polearms--er, the ones that don't look like Festivult decorations, anyhoo.

So this'd be every archer in Dragon Age, then?

At least that would explain why the bows have no strings.

You know, that sounds like it ought to be a song title.

D: I'd take that too Avejajed. I wanna get stabby with my mages.

*rolls around*

Magic Archer in Dragons Dogma does look like fun. (Though I wish we had more info on Mystic Knight though. I want to know what sorts of magics they get, I hope they have more then just party buffs.) BioWare could use the Magic Archer concept, it could be pretty cool to watch.

Personally, I'd be happy for mages to keep the staff (maybe ones with blades, like spears or something) and use it like in DA2, but actually get a talent tree full of melee talents for the staff, in addition to the spell trees.
