Miranda was originally supposed to be blonde. But they changed that when they designed her costume and decided dark hair fit better.
As for the FemShep thing, I like the red head over the blonde because its closer to the original FemShep.

Blood red is not the same as ginger. Also that decoration is quite nice. Would you go with a bald woman if she looked nice. Nope, would just detract from the liking.

Look, its just one of those slightly hypocritical ways certain things are viewed by society. A natural hair colour like blond is considered more sexualized then an artificial one like red.
Heels are too far but having characters go into battle with nothing but tight revealing latex clothing is absolutely fine. 
Yeah I remember the blonde. But to be fair that red colour does look good with the black armour femshep wears. You can always make femshep blonde if you really want.

Huh? You didn't see Natalie Portman when she
shaved her head I take it? She was still hot as hell. There were several beautiful women in music that have shaved their heads too. Hot is hot, with or without hair.
