OK, in the MassEffectWiki, they note that there are major timeline discrepencies with this mission.  Mainly that the thermal clips and mech technology in ME2 is, according to the official timeline, only a couple of years old.  Yet the ship crashed on the planet almost ten years prior to them landing there.  In short, it doesn't add up.

Why didn't they just change this mission story line to one where the crash happened two years prior.  So the ship, in the story, could have been outfitted with state of the art thermal clip weapons, and mechs, prior to it's fatal journey.?  In fact, a problem with one of the mechs, being new tech, and thus buggy, could have been blamed for something happening that caused the crash.

Would also have been more believable that they had enough food stores to last that long for the Officers only.

I wonder if the problem was getting the voice actors back in studio when and if a change was made to the game that affected this storyline.

That makes a lot of sense.  However, if I were to include this as a subplot of the movies that are going to be made, I would alter it drastically.  I would make it such that the ship only crashed a year to two years previous, otherwise, they would need to make it such that the ship was transporting food supplies, and tons of them.  Supplies that have a very long shelf life.

The problem with the mechs and thermal clips would need to be sorted, though the clips would be easy to sort in that it is really more of a game function.  No reason that they couldn't get re-armed by the shuttle if need be.  In fact, that could happen as part of evacuating the survivors at the camp.  But the mechs?  That is the major problem with sticking to the ship crashing ten years prior.
