We have just deployed new BSN project changes to prepare for more project changes coming Friday May 4th. Today’s changes will allow you to set a "Status" on your projects and there are 4 possible statuses to choose from. These are Planning, Building, Testing and Released. As of now all projects have been have been defaulted to the "Planning" status. For now these statuses are only visible while editing or creating a project. Please update your project status to reflect the current state it’s in. On Friday May 4th we will make this field visible to everyone.

Changes coming out Friday May 4th:
  • Status field will be shown on project pages and the browse projects page (http://social.biowar...bw_projects.php)
  • Removing the "Popularity" field.
  • Browsing projects will allow you to filter on the new "Status" field
  • Browsing projects will now default to showing "Released" projects and order by "Downloads"

*** These changes are now live ***

Will there be anything to replace the popularity field, or will it essentially be based on download number?

It's being replaced with the download number. You will still have the ability to order projects by Most Views, Date Created, Date Updated and Project Title.

No news on additional categories yet. I'll update when I know more.

This is truly wonderful news :) Am so happy to see this section being tended to.

If I may make a request, would it be possible to raise the upload limit for mods? I'm currently working on a mod where the bik file alone is above 100MB, not to mention the audio. If I can avoid separating files, it would really make both my life and the downloader's life that much easier.

Glad to hear this section ain't dead yet.
However, since those changes kick in a while after a lot of projects were released, I fear setting every project to that "planning" status by default may end up hiding many projects. Namely those released by authors that are no longer active on the BSN and therefore won't see they have to change the status(es) of their project(s).
(I only noticed it incidentally myself while having a look at the ME3 news.)

Great job, guys. Nothing is more glorious than seeing the "real" list of released playable DA modules :)

Yes.  It took me a week to hear about it (someone happened to mention it in an unrelated thread), and I'm active on BSN.  Just set my projects to "released" yesterday when I found out.

On another note, I notice that about half of the released projects under "Dragon Age Addons" are actually Mass Effect mods.

Steps are being taken to correct the status of project which have been released but are no longer actively supported and, potentially, the issues with project for games which are in the wrong categories. For more details see this week's issue of the Modders' Weekly Digest.

While I understand that everyone is excited about this being good news, I do not share that sentiment. Our 'released' mod has dropped to the last page because we could not host it here because of the size. All we have to dowload is a text document detailing how to obtain the mod which can be easily read without downloading.
