How would you feel if your character's origin was handled in MP only?

No MP for DA3

Certinly no MP i HAVE to play to impact on my single player game.

Keep DA a single player game, and dont make a DA MMO either while i am at it. Everytime a good single player franchise is turned into an MMO its no longer the same game

No, MP. Well, No MP that you have to play to get X or Y in your single playthrough.  Everytime I want to play Mass Effect 3, I have to log into Mass Effect MP to get the best story for the game. It is a waste of time.

EMS is bugged in ME3. Once they iron that out you can get enough EMS in SP to see everything. I'm not saying you would have to play it but rather they re-introduce the origins mechanic differently to make MP feel more like a DA setting. Also, on the note of weird people in MP, I've played a bunch and the worst I've come across playing with strangers is people with mics burping into their microphones. It goes like this: mission objective, the board is laid out in front of you, someone is yelling 'GO GO GO', cue the dramatic music and then some dude belts off a burp in surround sound :P

First off, I have no interest in multiplayer. I play RPG's for the story driven, singleplayer experience. Multiplayer does not belong in Dragon Age.

And after the ME3 multiplayer fiasco, I don't know if I'd trust that Bioware would keep the multiplayer completely separate from the singleplayer.

If my character's origin was generated through multiplayer, I would not even bother buying the game. I'm quite annoyed at the link between singleplayer and multiplayer in ME3. This suggestion is about a million times worse. There's no way I'll agree to grind some multiplayer mode, playing the same maps over and over and over for a week before I'm even allowed to create my character.

I like multiplayer. Was leader of my own Unreal Tournament clan for 5 years. Played TF2 for 690 hours before Mann Co turned me off. Played both L4Ds for 99 hours, and have 350+ hours and counting in Killing Floor.

But in my mind, singleplayer and multiplayer are totally different game states, requiring different skill sets and played out in different atmospheres.

There WILL be multiplayer in DA3. EA is on record as saying that every one of their games must have it. I can just about live with it existing, but I don't want it to affect singleplayer at all.

/rant. Sorry, its a bit of a sore subject with me right now :(

Edit: After reading a few more posts I'm now not entirely sure whether I understood the original suggestion properly. Are you suggesting that multiplayer would allow "origins" in the same way that other multiplayer games have "classes", and in singleplayer we use a fixed origin like DA2, and there is no link between the two?

If so ... I could live with it, but I'd probably be a bit annoyed. I'd like Origins in singleplayer. To not get them in singleplayer, but have them put into multiplayer, would feel like I just got trolled.

Wait. How is MP in ME3 a 'multiplayer fiasco' exactly? @ G00N3R7883 - Yeah I was thinking that origins may or may not come back to DAIII and thought that since a lot of folks want it and, I know, believe it or not, there are people who dig MP, that what if Origins was added as another layer of MP to further personalize/ customize your characters. It was just an idea that came up after reading a bunch of posts and EA's announcement that they are adding MP to their games.
It's my fault the original post was confusing by the way. I was burnt toast when I wrote it. :P
I think if MP adds to the game as apposed to affecting SP (meaning, you don't have to play it and all the cooll bits are in SP too) then it could be a really cool addition to the experience.

I was refering to the fact that you are required to play multiplayer in order to get the "best ending".
If multiplayer ends up in DA III, I definitely will not be pre-ordering. I will wait to read the reviews, and if MP is not completely separate, I will not be buying the game at all. I really enjoyed DA II but was thoroughly disappointed with how ME3 turned out.

I'd rather have a good SP.

I do not want to play MP, period. If any aspect of the Solo Campaign requires participation in the MP environment, then I am not going to be buying DA3 until its price has dropped significantly.

If DA3 has MP, and it is totally unrelated to the solo campaign, that is fine...although I am afraid that any resources that are used to create MP, will adversely affect the quality of the solo game.

No multiplayer.

<_<

A bit off topic, but you're saying this because you're worried that resources will be used building MP when they could be should be used on the single player?

I would also say no forced MP and having my character's origin be a part of MP sounds very very forced.  I play TOR solo.  I don't play ME MP at all.    If they are going to do something with MP I wouldn't care if it was issued as a DLC that i can ignore.  And yes, part of my concern would be resources being taking away from the single player story.

If MP must be included in DA3 then I'd absolutely support race options in it. For my part it should not come at the expense of returning such customization in the SP campaign, however. IMO races/origins are far too important to the franchise to shunt them into an (optional) MP setting only...races should all be available in the main game. It sounds like they're still under discussion for DA3, and we'll hopefully soon hear more about this issue.

hum....ok, i'll admit i'm not really sure what this topic is about, i kinda get where you're going with it, but then it gets pulled out from under me, which is a shame as i had a simmie involving jellied toast to reply with, but alas

Skim reading threw the other replies, no one else really sems to know wtf this is about either, mostly seems to boil down to panicy "oh, uh, like me3 mp right? haha yeah that's..uh...yeah!" or "boo MP raped my dog & killed my mother, i'll never accept it!"

Well, in all fairness my original post was kind of vague (I was totally burnt out), but since then I've clarified a couple of times.
What I was asking was, since MP will most likely be implemented in the next DA title, and BW seems to be leaning towards a fixed protag, what if the DA team implemented a new version of your character origins in MP (instead of in SP) to further deepen the experience?
If the fixed protag thing is actually fixed then we won't be seeing multiple origins to pick from but what if it came back, but differently?
Make more sense?
