Has anyone noticed how... off the romance choices for Mass Effect 3 were?

LI's for male Shepard: Miranda, Jack, Tali, Cortez, and Ashley

LI's for female Shepard: Garrus, Traynor

LI's for either gender: Kaiden, Kelly, Liara, Diana

Male Shepard gets 9 choices to choose from. 7 are female. 2 are male.
Female Shepard gets 6 choices. 4 are female, 2 are male. [3 including Thane, but I don't believe that actually counts for anything in ME3]

Why is it that femShep comes off as a lesbian for her choices? Male Shep can be with all these fine women.... but Fem Shep really only gets 2 male choices. TWO.
Am I the only one who's a little annoyed with this? It's like Bioware was pushing for femShep to be a lesbian and male Shep gets all the females he could want. Why the hell did they cut Vega out of the romance options for FemShep?
I love Garrus and all, but I'd like some variety... with other MEN. Not other ladies. The only other one I can choose is Kaiden... and I really don't like Kaiden. I hate Diana with a burning passion, Liara is too overdramatic for me at times,  and Kelly... I appreciated that she fed my fish for me in ME2 and that's about it.

I have nothing against gay people, I've got plenty of gay friends and I fully support gay rights. It's just... It's like they played to the men who want to see some lesbian action or something.
Even JAVIK as a romance option would even things out a bit. It would be incredibly awkward... but at least it would even it out :/

You know what? I would. I was that starved for male options. Before anyone says "garrus was awesome" he was and is and will always be my fav LI ...but the point of mass effect is replayability. They can't expect straight female players to romance the SAME TWO PEOPLE over and over every single time . Now I say two because of what happened to Jacob and Thane. I can’t count them as romances anymore because to do so is an INSULT to what bioware did to them. So now if straight ladies want a FULL romance experience they need to import it in or have kaiden alive otherwise they have bat for the other team or be forever alone.

I think I’m JUST as mad about all this as I am about the endings. I put myself in the shoes of gals who's favourite option was Thane or Jacob and how slighted and p*ssed of they must of felt when they found out the romance they were looking forward to continuing most was neglected in the worse ways possible. They nuked two established romances that were just as legit as every other ME2 romance at the time and didn’t even bother to add new options.  I had no reason to believe that picking Thane or Jacob would result in cruel punishment down the road.  And the word is punishment here, there is ZERO enjoyment in the continued romances for both of them (not why I play video games bioware). Ironically this is the game I feel most alienated in when it was supposed to be the game that femshep got promoted the most. All I got from these limited choices was a clear message "your choices don't matter as much as the guys . Your choices matter so little we either forgot they existed (Thane) or that they weren't worth putting effort into (Jacob)"

I did notice actually. My poor FemShep ignored romance the first two games and, oops, saved Ashley. Went through the whole game, never saw a romance option for anyone except Liara/Traynor/Diana. I had kinda fooled myself into expecting James as a romance option, then after I finished the game with no romance, I looked back and wondered who were options.

Then I found that because of I killed Kaidan in ME1 and didn't take Garrus in ME2, there were literally no straight options for my FemShep in ME3.

Jacob was lame, Thane I sort of expected but I thought it reasonably good really, tragic, but that renegade interrupt was sweet, sweet revenge.

Most gamers are male, and it appears that many of them like to get themselves some boobs and fantasize with lesbian relationships. Don't blame Bioware, blame the wicked demands of our youth.

Same scenario for me. I liked Ash more than Kaidan, so I saved her on Virmire.  I also didn't take to any of the romance options in ME2 and, given the crap treatment of Thane and Jacob, I'm sort of glad I didn't. So that left me with ladies and inappropriate auto-flirting with James that led nowhere. Yay. <_<

I think if Bioware was going to make Jacob a cheater, they should have at least compensated with James or another male character as a LI.

It didn't affect me so far since, as Hyrule accurately states, "Garrus is awesome", but I can definitely agree, given these dismal statistics. I thought girl gamers were becoming more, not less, marginalized. :/

(And, as my sig implies, although I never fully romanced Thane, I thought BW's treatment of him as an LI would have been laughable, had it not been so pathetic.  They FORGOT?  ....Um, really??)

I like being surprised in-game. And Jacob dumping my little FemShep really surprised me. So let's just say for the point of this argument that Jacob dumping FemShep and Thane dying had been dealt with in a good way. Jacob didn't have those unfortunate combos of romanced/unromanced dialouge and another box of issues. That Thane and FemShep could have had a discussion that didn't focus on how painful it is or how little time he has left. Let's pretend that they did a exit stage as early in the game as they did, but that it was done in a ok way. I would have been far more ok with it if, like you guys have said, there was a new LI for FemShep to somehow balance losing two of them.

Jacob surprised me, my FemShep got really drunk, ended up on the sofa with Aria. Turned down Kaidan because it was too soon afterwards and quite ****y for the next few missions. In that sense it was fun. Role playing that you have been let down by someone you love at such a crucial time. The one person you thought would be your rock when life falls apart ended up leaving you in a really painful way. In that sense I like it, it was a very different and I don't know if BroShep is able to have that experience. But, had it been a branching decision I would have been much happier. If I could somehow work to get him back. It would have been easier to take either my dear Jacob cheating and leaving or Thane dying (pretending that convos were good here) if one of them could have been saved. But since FemShep looses both of them it is too much. Two male LI:s isn't really enough which is why I'm so sad that Vega only teases and hides away afterwards. Love Kaidan to bits, and look forward to romancing Garrus, but there should be at least one more guy.

Lol My fem shep got drunk in the lounge in me2 because of the way Kaidan treated her. I would gladly had him join the crew instead :-)

Yup, straight FemSheps really do get shat upon in this game. They teased us with Joker and Vega, which got me all excited, but then Bioware cruelly pulled the rug out from under poor Shep by not allowing a follow-through for either of those fine men. Bah humbug!

Samantha Traynor is a great LI    <3   Currently romancing her.

If you want your FemShep to romance a woman I recommend her.

edit:

Hmm...  Perhaps the title should be something more like "FemShep got too few options in ME3"? Just that Kaidan was a great romance, heard that Garrus was great as well and will soon start a ME2-FemShep to get that Turian. Current FemShep is romancing Traynor who is lovely. The romances that FemShep has are pretty great, it's just a certain lack of males so to speak.

I agree but I also think that the existing romances were not that fully fleshed out as Liara romance, they should at least have given us more dialogues with especially Kaidan to make up for it.

I had just finished my first imported FemShep playthru...I saved Kaiden in ME1, didn't romance anyone in ME2, then dumped him in ME3. LOL! But as stated, the options for a LI after that were/are, pathetic.
I am confused over Kaiden having SO MUCH MORE dialogue with Shepard once he's on the Normandy, as opposed to Ashley. Kaiden at least leaves his quarters from time to time...and has much larger dialogue at the end of missions occasionally. Ashley on the other hand hardly had any...and we never see her outside of her cabin.

But LI's options for a FemShep are terrible. I thought it would have been pretty cool if she would have gotten a chance to hook up with Anderson too. Those 2 always seemed to have a really close bond. I think the ending made it more like a Father/Daughter bond....but remove that and have them as LI's instead. (Male Sheps slept with junior officers in ME1 (Ash)...so and Admiral and his former XO would have made sense.)

Hmm... haven't had the opportunity to play with Ash yet. That's the next FemShep for me, she's currently in ME2 so it's a little while left for me. It almost feels like her material is bugged because I find it a little strange that she should be much more quiet than Kaidan once on the ship. Those two has otherwise always had very similar roles and amount of content. Oh well, time will tell.

People might misunderstand so just to be clear, you mean "banter type dialogue" right? Cause he has only two cutscenes as dialogue on the Normandy but Ashley has the same amount, she just got one extra on the citadel instead of the Normandy.

This thread again! I'm so happy this keeps popping up. Maybe Bioware will get a clue.

For me, there should have been more for Thane before he died. For Jacob, Shepard should have been allowed the chance to fight and win him back, the baby thing shouldn't have existed. If these situations are such great story telling, then why doesn't male Shepard have situations like this. None of his LI auto-die beyond his control or dump him for someone else. The only person that turns him down is Traynor but she is so put out there as a lesbian it's just dumb if she didn't.

Wouldn't it have been great if Kai Leng just murdered Miranda no matter what you did? Wouldn't it have been great if Liara just left Shepard for Feron? Obviously those two have a connection, it would have been believable, and have her already pregnant with his baby so there is absolutely no way you could get back together with Liara. It's all the same stuff as the ending though. It's Bioware's artistic integrity.

No, it wouldn't be great story telling. Fanboys would have raged and the forums would be burnt to the ground and those cup cakes would have Miranda and Liara faces all over them.

Here is my summary of the ME3 straight romances for femShep. (Garrus is of course if you didn't import a romance with him into ME2)

Lol except I have a huge crush on Kaidan and I liked his romance BUT it wasn't fully fleshed out as Liara romance and it was really missing some dialogues.

In some ways, they are all forbidden fruit (except Kaidan) but Javik is the super golden apple of forbidden fruit.

Bioware said no but the fans said Rule 34.

Garrus should be more than enough man meat for all your FemSheps. Its worth doing yet another run of ME2 just to get his loving in ME3 again C:

Nah, in all seriousness. Yep. We ladies and dudes not horny for lesbians get shafted again. Sad for us.
