I will be sending messages to all the really terrible players I have met in bronze and silver games, and I will be telling them that today is the day, that this weekend they will have what it takes to play through gold. There are lots and lots of them. They have no end. They are infinite. They are legion. The time of their arrival is coming. Their numbers will darken the sky of every lobby. You cannot escape your doom.

SWARM THEIR POSITIONS! OVERWHELM THEM! FIGHT AS ONE.

You're all expecting the OP to bend over backwards to help the noobs so they can "have fun", ignoring the fact that he wants to have his fun.

You're a bunch of ****wits.

No, we're saying a few things:

Public games are random by nature, so complaining about them is pointless.

You can either make the best of them or ignore them entirely by building a friendslist (very easy to do on the forums).

And if you're going to moan about newbies and unskilled players in an elitist way, you'd best be able to play the game to a decent standard or the arrogance is completely unjustified.

Gold is...weird in some respects though, in ways that can make people who aren't used ot it a drag on the rest of the team. It doesn't play like simply a more difficult version of Bronze or Silver. You play defensive or you make it harder on everyone else. The "random by nature so you shouldn't complain" thing is a non sequitur. We're seeing a trend specifically brought on by Bioware encouraging people to play a difficulty that they're not comfortable with.

I'm not saying that I agree with the OP's tone, but I don't agree with completely dismissing the complaint either.

Don't worry after carrying 5 teams someone brought a melee GI to Glacier and let me coast. It works both ways.

Just shut up and carry them. It's no big deal, since you're so 1337 yourself.

So Bioware providing incentive for the noobs to join gold games and be a liability is something we shove under the rug then?

Unless you dislike the sort of people you meet on the forums. Shocking, I know.

I tend to agree with the OP. I wouldn't have put it like he did, but the concept behind this event is illconceived.

Inexperienced people having a crack at gold is all well and good, but it's also exceedingly frustrating when people who aren't familiar with the difficulty 'jump in' for their fortnightly N7 weapon. At best you end up three manning Gold, and at worst it's a waste of time for everyone involved.

So if they let you beat bronze for it everyone would get it, turning a contest into nothing. Believe it or not the game is fun when its challenging, I bet those noobs are going to feel like gods when they beat gold. Its a good thing bioware is promoting a challenge vs the normal grind.

Somehow this is more annoying than fbw Geth? If you don't want to help out newer players then play with friends or solo gold.

There are other things to do to create a challenge other than "simply finish a game", that would be applicable to multiple difficulties.

It's more annoying than fbw geth because people run around, dig in to horribly indefensible positions, and force the more experienced players to carry them.

Gold isn't fun. It's frustrating. I'm going to get a load of people saying, "OH, BUT I PLAY GOLD FOR FUN" - but get real, the incentive is the cash reward (and in this case, the fortnightly N7 weapon). It's not the difficulty. Don't try and make out people play Gold for the difficulty - by that logic Bioware could put in a Platinum difficulty which is balls to the wall difficult and rewards you with nothing; I'm sure that'd be a HUGE hit (not). The people who play Gold 'for fun' are in the minority.

People play Gold because it's rewarding in all other ways but fun, hence Firebase White, Geth, Gold runs.

I hate it too when unexperienced players with their level 6 characters fill my Gold Lobby. I just leave because it makes no fun trying to carry them and wasting time. I thought the people should have a brain and at least could farm their chars to a high level and then start Gold. The weekend is long enough to bring a char up to 18-20 and then rejoin Gold what is the problem with that? If you don't have any good weapon and are lowlevel? How are you any help for the team or have fun by yourself not being able to kill anything or to survive any hits. People should more often use their brain and think about their actions. But people that think got rare these times. If you want the challenge with your LvL 1 DrellVanguard with Locust and Viper get some friends and ask them if they want to do some crazy stuff with you or tell the Lobby whats going on but don't bother me to waste my time.

The influx of non-Gold players can be directly attributed to this weekend's challenge, so I'd say people have every right to complain.

Define "elitist" and "decent standard"? People who have no business playing Gold have no business to complain about other people who have no business playing Gold. But I'm pretty sure that's not the case here.

If you primarily play with friends (I assume so because that seems to be the go-to suggestion) then you don't have proper perspective to comment on the matter. 30 minutes of "matchmaking" is beyond frustrating.

And I'll say again; this isn't fun for either party. "Noobs" die constantly, hardly kill anything and during later waves don't get revived if the team has any interest in winning. Were I in their position, I certainly wouldn't be having any fun. "Regular people who play Gold" end up expending much more time and effort, undermanned and often for no reward.

"But they'll never learn if they don't try!" Well, look at it like playing guitar. You don't go from "Hey I can play a G chord, kinda" to shredding Steve Vai. If you can consistently beat Silver then I'm okay with you trying Gold. But I don't think many of the players I've seen can consistently beat Bronze, let alone Silver. And the only reason they're playing Gold is to get those N7 weapons...which is a deliberate choice made by BioWare, hence why we're here complaining.

Oh, and the lern2carry brigade is the definition of elitist.

I agreement with OP, scrubs should stay in bronze (& silver then come gold when they got gear and skill.

Takes me 30 minutes to find à lobby without 2 guys with an n7 lower than 50 ( n7 says Jack sh*t, ikr but lower than 50 and crap gear indicates their scrubs)

As well i'm not gonna waste time on carrying them as it takes more time than when you get people who can actually do gold.

Well I found Gold Cerberus Firebase Ghost entertaining. It was my first Gold run ever. The reason I found it entertaining is because of the team effort everyone gave. It wasn't about getting as much point as one person can. It was about surviving through every wave. Everyone had their jobs even though we didn't even communicate. As a Salarian Infiltrator I found out that I'm the one to revive fallen people near the enemies. Also I managed to do some pretty decent damage with my sniper rifle. Many times when Phantom was running at me and I was pretty much doomed, that one Asari Adept(not sure if it was Justiciar) saved me with Stasis.

In the end I earned the second most points, even though I was first-timer and my N7 rank(I think it's 101 atm) was the lowest in the team. So I thought that this Operation is a good way to introduce Gold difficulty to people.

But on the OP, I understand how you feel about this case. Level does matter because of the bonuses you earn. N7 rank doesn't say anything about skills, but it says how much a player has invested time in his game.

This.... feels like its making me think of some kind of CoD or Halo thing......

I honestly dont care what goes on as long as it gives me some laughs when I see them fall to the ground. As if anyone picks up a Krogan Battlemaster anyways on any levels and just let me stay down..... yeah, no needs a tank, pfffffffffft.

Anyways, if it ends up bad, I leave. Its just ONE game you play with them. There is a leave button, but if they are newbs, just wait it out. You'll most likely survive to the second data storage thing or killing of an important target. Just focus on money if you are playing with n00bs. Gets your mind of of how horrible you think they are.

Wasn't Goliath a silver challenge? They should stick with that.

I do like that this weekend has reduced the number of White Geth lobbies however.

Ehh, you can kick them. But I also see this as sort of a trial by fire that can make the whole community better. Everybody knows how hard gold is now, but also how much coin and exp you can get. This was only my 3rd gold game ever, and the 2nd one I survived, and it was beautiful chaos. Makes me want to try harder in MP and get better equipment.

Just tried like 5 or six gold lobbies. Did not get to wave 6 in any of them. On 3 lobbies team got downed on wave 3. I am pretty good but not solo reapers with anything good so i did not bother with using medigel and stuff to keep the game going. When each of your teamates gets downed 5 times before wave 3 you know that its time to call it a day and give up.
