I played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for a few hours. It's hardly the worst game I've played(and has some great merits), but it's by far one of the most frustrating and painful games I've experienced due to the combat. The AI is inhumanly powerful and overly aggressive to the point where I'd rather be fighting against an experienced group from Counter-Strike.

On the plus side, they do atmosphere and a level of realism that felt fresh(and likely inspired elements from F:NV's Hardcore Mode). The open-world design will feel familiar to those who played Far Cry or similarly-styled games. And GoG does offer free soundtracks for each game, so it's a decent deal if you enjoy creepy ambience.

It's still borderline ridiculous in terms of combat, though. The weaponry either boils down to a pistol that barely damages your foes, a shotgun(which is nice as long as you're not in the more open firefights), and assault rifles that hardly aim where they're supposed to.

If you wanted a game that combines Far Cry, Fallout, and Counter-Strike with a blistering twitch-reflex difficulty, this may be for you. Otherwise, I'd suggest Metro 2033 for a more enjoyable experience. Personally, I'm not a happy camper with this one.

Thanks. A bit like Stanley's Parable with a very outlandish style to it. As TH mentioned, it's a bit overpriced, but it looks very entertaining.

That harsh? It's been some 6/7 years since last I played the original - haven't gotten around to playing the expansions yet -, but I do not remember it as being overly hard.

Having said that, I think I played it on either easy or normal, no shame in that if it makes the game more enjoyable to be had. The AI hardly seemed overly overpowered, nor intelligent, sometimes clearly coming at you in a straight cue for extra convenience of lining up shots. I also don't recall the gunplay being overly weird, that n00b-pea flingers aren't holding up well later on in the game is hardly a surprise, though.

Between Metro and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I'd frankly rather give the latter a shot again. Metro's turning the shooty action proportion from the book completely upside down left a bad impression with me.

Almost finished with the game now - I think due to the weapons/armor early in the game, I had a much harder time handling it. Currently using a scoped Obokan with a silencer, and it's a very satisfying weapon. But yeah, fighting off 5 guys with a PMm pistol for the first mission, I may as well have been hitting them with a foam bat.

Storywise, I'd reccomend S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but some of those combat sections are borderline ridiculous and will require a ton of "Last Save" clicks. It's a sniper's paradise, though. Right before you head into The Red Forest, there's this valley with a very intense firefight as a sniper. X16/X18 Laboratories and the Top of the Red Forest are gorgeous and eerie. The game has grown on me, but I still find some of that AI overly vicious. Their reflexes just seem too fast. I've been outgunned many times by Zombies. o.O

No, I got the same one. I think it's a standard response. I was sent an email a few minutes later.

Oh man Dungeon Keeper, loved this as a kid. Hated the bastard heroes who can tunnel through your walls. What is deeper dungeons?

Is there a map maker for this? Always loved the 4 way battle against the other keepes and the Heroes as well.

Didn't like DK 2 though.

I also have warm, macabre memories of Dungeon Keeper.

Tried Guacamelee, a very pleasant surprise. Not particular lengthy, but the level of work put into this game is pretty astounding. The combat mixes somewhere between Castlevania & God of War, with a metroid-esque level style. Lots of good humor, too. And damn is it pretty. A ton of game references too.

I have played this one and it is a fun and challenging retro action/platform game in the viens of classics such as Rastan and Ghouls & Ghosts series.
