Cannot purchase anything in the multiplayer store

There are really two issues here - and i guess that they're related.

1) When loading the game is sits on "Connecting to EA Servers..."  forever.
I can get past this by unplugging the network cable, and plugging it back in, and then telling it to reconnect.

but then there's problem number 2

2) On multiplayer i can set stuff to buy in the store (using XBL credits or the ingame earned credits) and it will jsut present an error, and tell me to contact support if it persists.

well it's been doing it for at least 3 days now. I'd call that persisting

Here's me contacting support.

Additional:
Everything else works just fine and dandy
I can play multiplayer, i can play single player, i can sync my Galaxy At War stats, i can buy stuff from the xbox marketplace just fine, all my games are working fine and communicating to UPlay, or whatever other crazy proprietary site they choose to use.
I can use all the apps just fine (netflix, bbc iplayer, etc)

My ping is 18ms, download speed is 16.78MBs,  upload speed is 5.32MBs
I have no issues using any other web service throughout my home.
My XBL gamertag is Lilmuckers
My origin name is   Lilmuckers1

So, whatever is happening is really friggin weird.
