Ha, ive been wondering how Bioware is going to pull of Dragon Age 3, i mean they have TWO protaganist now, and one did not have a voice in the first one, so are they not going to add his voice? The Origins protaginist could be three differnt races, so three differnt voice actors? WTF? Also how are you going to control two protaganist, i mean are you going to like switch back and forth between the two of them, or if there together, hows THAT going to happen? I just hope they dont dissapoint. What are you thoughs on this?

They have said DA3 would have a new PC to play.

They have also said the Dragon Age series is about thedas not one person/group.

Well, Flemeth ate the Warden and Hawke, so their lines are limited to simmering in her stomach's digestive fluids.

Well it's quite simple really, they'll keep the more varied Warden limited to reference (You'll meet people talking about, or on business for, the Hero of Fereldan but never see them for yourself), and since none of your decisions in DA2 made a lick of difference they just need to keep track of Hawke's gender, personality type (Blue, Purple, or Red), and appearance. The first two are just so they can get the right voice file and throw in the odd bit of naivete, snark, or glower for characterization purposes, and the third is stored on your machine. Heck considering the Black Emporium has a magic mirror that let's you change your appearance you don't even need to keep that.

Then we're given some new PC to run around and play with, preferably one who's allowed to be a bit more proactive.

Dragon age isn't mass effect, they have a new protagonist each game. It would be AMAZING if they did a trilogy with a single protagonist though. So much potential there.

Bioware should use a new protagonist and keep cameos to a minimum. If they learned one lesson from mass effect, it's that sustaining too many characters and story arcs throughout a series ends up branching into an unmanageable set of outcomes. Then people become livid when they realise that none of their "choices" mattered at all because you didn't have the time/money/vision or resources to pull it off.

The Dragon Age universe is fundamentally different from other games. Instead of following a single protagonist through an epic story (Shepard) or have the same character in several games that having nothing to do with each other plotwise (Sonic and Mario) it's about the world itself. They pretty much said every game will be from the viewpoint of someone else in the world. In Origins we had the Warden, and we were introduced to all he world's problems in a backwater country facing the biggest problem of all. The Blight.

In the second game we go more in depth with the mages and the templar tensions and the start of the war, and this is seen from the character Hawke. We are outright told that Hawke's story is over and (s)he won't make a reappearance (maybe in mention or a cameo) but won't be playable in DA3. We'll have an entirely new protagonist to work with, looking at the world from another angle.

Two things will kill Da3 for me and that is if morrigan is absent or a romance option even if she had a past relationship with the father of her child and the only man she will ever truly love, the warden. If this occurs, I will switch sides and join the enraged part of bsn in protest.I'm not worried about the story, David gaider has been writing my games since Bg2 and has never let me down.I could care less about the game engine and fighting mechanics as I play the game not solely for the battle but the story which happens to involve battle.Give me a quarter staff and I'm going to clean house so all in all I'm just waiting for a trailer or "pre order here" signs to go up.

Playing as a new character.

Wouldn't mind Hawke or the Warden being involved in the story.

Must confess that my initial reaction to the thread title was, "they probably aren't". However....

The end of DA2 was that the Warden and the Champion had disappeared.Which creates a nice big hole for a new player character in DA3.

I don't see that it would be too tricky for them to reference something of your character from the other two games but doubt they will make an active appearance - that would presumably be a huge hassle development wise.

It's not a hole, Maric,The warden and Hawke disappearing are all part of the larger plot.

I didn't mean that it was a hole in the plot, I meant that by getting rid of the player characters from the first two games they created space for a third one without really having to have the previous two in-game. It's what the OP was asking about.
