Im playing around with a new Rogue build, going for the Stealth/Shadow talents. The Ambush passive talent in the Subterfuge tree states that it grants a auto crit when Stealthed. It also says it combines with other talents, like Backstab. However, many talents already have a %100 crit rate. So is the Ambush effect wasted, or does it give a double critical?

it would be wasted. Most of the stealth tree is useless when you plan your build properly.

44 dex + Precision + Unending Chain + Heroic Aura/Valiant makes it easy enough to stay at +90% all the time.

Have Varric or another rogue with you to drop your triggers. Chameleon's Breath and Fatiguing fog work wonders from a companion when using a rogue shadow hawke. Click the rogue guide in my signature to understand the synergy a little better.

Yea its so easy to get crits with the proper build, it seemed like such a useless talent to waste a point on. The wording in the description just made me think it gives an extra effect to talents that already auto crit. Oh well. Thanks for the reply

you can pretty much just cunning build at a 1:2 dex:cun structure and never have to worry really.
Especially if you went dualist.

Varric is even more ridiculous with his personal tree + 1pt precision + valiant aura.
