I have been playing this game close to forever (my characters are all
around Level 16-17), and am now stuck in Carigan's Cross. Every new
save I make is corrupped. I get the message "The Save file appears to
be damaged and cannot be loaded."
How do I get around this, and PLEASE don't tell me the game is dead to me now.
And
yes, my HD is old, but appears fully functional in all other respects,
and on XBOX live (just downloaded a video) and on other games.

BTW, I got a profile timed out message near the beginning of my playing, but I didn't think anything of it. Is this related to the corrupted saves? More importantly, how can I continue playing the game now without starting over?

If all your saves you have are corrupted, then yes, I see no way for you to recover. The profile timed out thing is normal. I suggest finding an earlier save and starting from there. If you don't have one...well...sucks.

Oh, I have lots of earlier saves...problem is I launch them, try to save, and do nothing more than create yet another new corrupt save. The problem isn't that I don't have older saves - its that I cannot make new saves.
EDIT: And this sucks just as bad unless I can somehow go through the rest of the game without ever making a "killing" causing mistake or turning off my machine...

if you can, try to save to a different storage device. Also, try installing the game to the HDD. Could be a problem with your disc drive. You can also try cleaning the disc and using a DVD player cleaning disc.
Hope that helps.
Hope that helps.

Actually sfam I also had this same problem with one of my first games that I had. I had a level 17 Two handed warrior and my save file also got corrupted and found that there really is no way around it. unfortunately I had to delete my character and start over. I even Tried playing much further into the game, about 4 hours into it and when I tried saving same corrupted file thingy came up. Sry to let you down but I really dont see any way around it.

Funny thing to my last game I was just playing a dual wielding warrior and I got to the part in the game after the landsmeet and when I was at redcliffe castle the alpha ogre wouldn't trigger for some reason so I was stuck outside redcliffe castle and couldn't continue the game. So that is another game that I lost due to a **** up by the game that wouldn't let me finish. Very Frustrating.

I had a sword and board human noble warrior that i had managed to get to the beginning of the landsmeet, saved and I went to bed.
I had done every main/side quest i could find up to that point, opened every chest I came across, spoke to every npc listening to every and every dialogue tree, got all the best armour and swords up to that point, spent ages leveling up each member of the team manually picking all their skills and talents, had a shed load of money, exploited NO glitches to gain xp or gold/items, bedded both Morrigan and Leliana, new elite xbox to replace old premium, new 120gb hdd, 90 other owned games played and only oblivion every corrupted (1 of my 10 or so saves), 15 dragon age saves, 93 hours+ in and BAM.... every single save corrupted including the autosave.
I'm not gonna moan about it, these things happen, it's just time to move on and play something else (Assassin's Creed 2, Forza 3 and Tropico 3 at the moment). I don't think i'd enjoy it as much playing it all again so soon. I'll probably start a new character in 6 months time or so when i've got the taste back for it (and fingers crossed, a 360 patch has been released) because the 70% of it I have played was ace. It really is a great game, it just makes me want ME2 even more now. This is still a big enough issue in my eyes though and hopefully the powers that be at BioWare will be kind enough to have a look at us poor 360 owners and maybe see what's causing all of my saves to be corrupted.

Hmm, no, I don't think its the 20 HD that I'm saving it to. It seems to work perfectly in all other respects. I really doubt the DVD itself is the problem, but who knows, I'll give that a try. At this point, considering massive numbers of folks are having the same problem, I'm inclined to think its a bug with the game.

I'm actually having the same exact problem, but different spot. I have about 5 different save files that I rotate through just to keep a good log of them. I'm about 75 hours in and when I go to Redcliff to start the Landmeet section, any file I save after that point corrupts and I have to go back to a save file from Anvil of the Void and play about 5 or 6 hours to catch up to that same spot. When I get there, again any save file I make corrupts. It's really ticking me off, I submited a formal question through customer support, but I'm not holding my breath.

(Repost from Corrupted / Damaged save games
thread)
I've tried forwarding these forums along with a description of the issue to a couple gaming websites to see if they would post a news story. A lot of times were we the consumer can not get answers from devs or publishers, the critical media has some muscle they can flex. I suggest we possibly send word of this in mass numbers from different users to Internet publications.
Just a couple suggestions being IGN, Joystiq, 1up, Gamespot, etc. We all have our prefered sources, let them know about this, see what we can do!

Again, the only groups that might have an impact would be IGN based on their Sony bias, GS because they are run and/or owned by CBS Television, or Game Informer because they are a major gaming magazine to begin with.

I think I figured it out.
I noticed I could save at some points and not others... first worry was that the drive itself was corrupted somehow.... but I kept going back to the most recent save that still worked and doing different things. I read here that everyone had the same problem roughly near the same point in the game, but not EXACTLY the same time... just sometime near to the calling of the landsmeet.
So I retraced my steps of the more recent things I did between the last working save and the broken saves... I noted that my troubles began after going to the outdoor Camp and doing things there. Mostly selling stuff and putting some things in the army donation crates. So I figured maybe there was a particular object picked up by most people at this point in the game that was maybe corrupted.... so I started selling stuff to Bodhan one thing at a time and saving after each and loading that save to see if it worked until...bam - I hit a wall.... I tested out by going back one save and selling a different item, but still, broken save. Then I tried destroying those couple items, and saving instead of selling to Bodhan.... and saves were fine.... then I had an idea...
So I bought a unique item from Bodhan...then sold him another I had already tried.....save FINE.
Then I counted up the number of items Bodhan (who, unlike other merchants, does not recycle stuff you sell him) was presently holding... after a few more tests it was always between 275 and 280 ( I think the variability depended on how many items were also being held temporarily in the buyback column) and if you sell him just one more object... he is overloaded... I went elsewhere and sold a few things and did a few things and saves are still fine.... BODHAN HAS A LIMIT. All saves after overloading Bodhan will be broken...
What is the most common post-dungeon-conquering activity? Go to a merchant and sell loot...most common merchant?... Bodhan.... Why didn't I encounter this problem in my first playthrough? Because I didn't have the Feastday Gifts and Pranks add-on which take up a BUNCH of slots on Bodhan.
So I encourage you all to test out my find for yourselves. I feel bad for anyone who finds this too late.... but I hope this brings hope to future generations.
