If you kept him alive in act 1 he returns to offer aid in act 2 during All that Remains. During the final battle he may betray you unless you can convince him if you are a Diplomatic Hawke or an Aggressive hawke, according to the DA2 wiki
However it doesn't state if you can do this if you are a charming/humorous Hawke
anyone know?

Diplomatic Hawke can convince him that Quentin's work is monstrous. Aggresive Hawke can scare him into helping against Quentin.
If Varric is in the party you will not get an option to persuade Gascard; Varric will kill him before the fight.

Using sarcastic option is a no!It does not help Gascard betray Quentin.
