I saw it for sale and saw "Dungeons and Dragons' somewhere on the box. I had to get it. ;)
I later got Shadows of Amn and Thone or Bhaal. Lately I saw "Dungeons and Dragons Anthology" for the computer and I thought that since it had some of my favorite games on it, plus some bonus items, I'd defnitely get it.

I saw my dad playing it. I knew it was DnD and I really wanted to try a game like that. I didn't until I was 12. And I sucked at it. But love for the series has kept making me return from when the game came out through Windows XP, Vista, and now 7. Much older, I believe I can learn from all my mistakes and that is what makes the game both easier and fun. Re-learning what works, what doesn't and what is useless (which appears to be almost nothing!) is making my next victory in video gaming all the sweeter!

I don't recall actually purchasing the game when it came out, though I know I did. It was a sad day when I rolled over the foldout that holds the CDs with my office chair and cracked a couple. I never got to finish the game -- I can only recall ever getting to the Nashkel mines, in fact. I was maybe 20 or 21 at the time. I dearly loved the game, but I never bought a replacement for it.

It wasn't until just a few months ago that I've picked up the torch again with a great burning desire to complete the series. I had been looking for a secure (e.g. not eBay) way to get the Baldur's Gate series, but I hadn't been able to find it for sale anywhere. Then a few months ago I received an email from Atari with a sale that no one in their right mind could pass up: Baldur's Gate I & II and all expansions, Neverwinter Nights and all its expansions and Neverwinter Nights 2 and all of its expansions for a measly $10. Since I recently lost my CD-keys for Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2 with the old BioWare site going down, it was the perfect package for me at a price that couldn't be beat. So here I am working to complete the game again, and having a good time doing it.

I was a P&P player of AD&D back in the day. When BG came out it reminded me so much of those old days of adventuring but even better since it was on a computer.

I had a childhood love of RPGs, specifically D&D- despite having almost never played it due to a lack of other interested parties. A D&D game on "sophisticated" PCs of 98/99 was literally a dream come true. I had to buy a new hard drive just to install it (my exisitng hard drive was 2.6 GB total, and was nearly full, BG needed approx 1GB to install), which just added to the incredible allure of the game.

My friends and I had just started playing 3rd edition in high school, and I was hooked. Then I saw a computer game based on D&D, and had to try it.

Blew my socks off.

My friends and I were big fans of D&D and AD&D in particular. Over the years we all drifted apart, though sometimes we would get back together for old times sake and play. But, even that became few and very far apart.

Then SSI released Pool of Radiance for the Commodore C-64 and in time release additional games of the same series as well as Azure Bonds.

In time, my computer was replaced for the new AT class systems, but there weren't many D&D Titles about. Then a friend of mine at work mentioned he had been playing Baldur's Gate, which he would sell me for $10.00 (US) if I wanted to keep it after trying it... I hadn't been reading up on or otherwise following and game developers, so I gave it a try, and gave him the 10 bucks the next day.

When SoA was released, I was standing in line to get my copy, and picked up ToB as soon as that was released.

The reason I like the series is for the way it handled the AD&D rules of the time. Of the series, I enjoy SoA the most, but each of the series entries were epic fantasy with memorable characters that has become a trademark, of sorts, of BioWare.

I still periodically play BG now and then, just as I do NWN and other titles I have (see my sig).
