I've been playing for several days, with a human noble rogue as my primary character. Currently his Strength is 12 and his Cunning is 20 and I've taken Coercion.

Now it may just be an anomaly of who I've been talking to so far or simply a fluke of chance, but when I get [Intimidate] or [Persuade] options in dialogue, I have a moderate rate of success with the Intimidate options, but seem to flunk every single Persuade attempt I make. Shouldn't it be the other way around for my character build, or is persuasion innately more difficult than intimidation?

There are two types of persuasion and intimidation

normal and difficult.

Most likely, the difference between your strength and cunning stats is not enough to make a significant difference and you are only succeeding or failing because of the difficulty of the checks vs your coercion skill.

One point in the coercion skill counts as much as 25 attribute points in strength and cunning for the purpose of intimidate and persuade checks.

what I think he's saying is that for the same amount of coercion, he's finding more success with intimidate than persuade.

my guess is that some npc's are easier to intimidate, and some are easier to persuade.

If your strength happens to be more than your cunning...you're going with intimidating.

If your wanting to persuade, you might want to raise your cunning.

Guys like Dwyn in Redcliff need a good amount of cunning to persuade him.

Guys like Allister (cause he's a whiner) don't need that much unless you're trying to make him king or sleep with him lol.

Sometimes you need less intimidation than persuasion to succeed in a particular conversation and vice versa. Don't just make a knee-jerk reaction and go with persuasion all the time, you can pick up clues about the character you're interacting with and what their motivations and position are that will help you determine what is likely to be more effective. Look at the sentences and try to figure out if they make sense for the character you're talking to.

fyi get full coercion. You will pass all checks with zero str or cunning.

And the others are right. The difference between 12 & 20 is close to zero. Come back if you have 50 cunning and 12 strength and still see a difference.

Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't realised that the Coercion skill rank was so much more heavily rated than the attribute scores. I'll boost that up and see how things go.
