Hello :) I have a few questions for yall -

1) During posting, the 'speedtreecad.exe' crashes.. constently... I tried a number of things like checking the permissions within Windows but all seems fine. I can not complete my work as it will not post ANY vegetation to my area..

2) While posting, I get the 'can not find sound type..' for my vegetation.. I assume this is related to the first question..

I searched everywhere for a solution and found absoulutely nothing on the topic. I have reinstalled several times with no succes.. Any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks in advance Posted Image

EDIT: It was brought to my attention that the sheer number of trees in my level could be causing this issue..I went back and made a new level with only a few pieces of grass and nothing else.. Speedtree still crashes Posted Image

Sounds like this thread would get better attention in the Toolset Level and Area Creation forum. If you PM Astorax nicely, he may even be kind enough to move it there for you.

Ok, so I got my module into the game, minus the vegetation which is still a no-show.. the trees are there somehow as I can go to an area with them and still be blocked/impeded by the trees.. It seems they are there but just 'invisible'.. Any ideas guys?

You exported your trees in the level editor correct?

There is a setting that will remove the tops of things like trees and roofs and cave tops for viewing purposes do you have that set on?

And as stated by the other person in this thread, you'd have a better chance at a good response posting this in the level/area creation forum.

wow, this is the worst customer sevice I have ever received!!! Is this how potential/past customers get treated here? I had faith in Bioware and have supported them for many years but now how am I to do such?

First, this is not the customer service desk. It is a user forum where users help other users. The good folks over at Bioware pitch in when they can -> they are not required to do so.

Second, as stated by others above, you will have better luck in the level and area design sub-forum since those folks work with these tools regularly.

Third, you aren't even replying to questions asked by Beerfish ->

Fourth, even if this was a customer service desk, you would need to provide a lot more information than you have now -> what OS are you using? What is the error when speedtree crashes? Is there any reference in the Toolset log files?

Well, I did reply to Beerfish, see my post after his..

Ive checked the toolset logs and nothing is there regarding the crash..

The only 'error' message is the windows popup stating the program encountered a problem and needs to close..

Im on Win7 with full updated system/drivers..

I have tried ALL that I know to cure the issue.. Ive checked Windows properties/settings.. Ive reinstalled the toolset several times.. the crash occurs while I 'Do all Local post' or even when I 'post trees to local'... every time.

Just to double check.. Beer mentioned to 'export' while in the level editor.. I currently have a world terrain level going and this is where I 'export/post'.. I will grab a sceen shot of the error, perhapsI hve done something wrong/out of order etc (dont think I have tho, been following the wiki tuts to the tee..)

Whilst i do not know the solution to your current problem, I do not believe there is a limit to the number of tree objects, and i think the amount of tree objects is not the problem (i have run to over 6000 tree objects in an area and had no glitches, not even a framerate drop in game)
Since it looks like you are running in either Vista or Win7, ensure you are using an account with administrator privelages. And it may require running the toolset as administrator.
Also (if Win 7) if you can find the SpeedtreeCAD in the toolset directories (i cant seem to find it :P) it may also be worth setting it to compatibility mode to work in windows xp SP3 safe mode. (or could even set this in the toolset executable)

Those are the only suggestions i can think of, having never come accross that error myself :(

Yep, im on Win7 and have checked/changed the permissions/run as admin/set to XPsp3 etc.. None of those options made a difference :(

Strange thing is that this happens when I post trees to local etc.. It goes thru the motions and even states in the log that the tree post was completed/succesful.. but when I load up the level in the ara editor or even the game the trees are a no-show BUT their locations do seem to be marked as I can run/walk into where one would be.. I also dont seem to be getting the proper shading/lighting on the trees, I assume due to the intial speedtree crash.. Also, I get a 'no sound type set' for the vegetation but can not add/change a sound type as that option is grayed out for me Posted Image

This is how I add trees, perhaps Im doing it wrong -
1) Right-click the 'Vegetation' icon, selecting 'add new tree controller'
2) Selecting a new tree controller then Right-click the new tree selection and select 'new tree node'
3) I place the first node then add other trees by using the 'Scatter' tool
4) Fine tune the positions of the trees
5) Do the R. lightmaps, R. light probe, pathing, then local posts

In the past/at first I was not adding the 'tree node' and was justing adding the controller then scattering trees all over with the tool.. I got the same results this way which led to me adding a tree node (which has the same effect/error..) Ive also tried creating a new level but with just 1 tree in it and then render/post as usuall.. same thing happens, Speedtreecad crashes :(

I haven't come across the crash issue before, but the lack of a soundset for trees is I believe normal. I think only certain grass types may have soundsets, for making a shuffing nose when you walk through it. Not sure how that works.

Can you run SpeedTreeCAD separately from the toolset? It's located in C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\tools\\export_processors\\SpeedTreeCAD (or wherever your equivalent Program Files directory is). If it crashes when run directly perhaps it'll at least give a more detailed error message.

Your procedure for adding trees to a level layout looks correct to me. Not a level artist, but play one on TV.

I have tried to run the .exe in the install folder.. It crashes and gives me the same message as in the toolset (all I get is the basic Windows error message.. logs in toolset say nothing..) I have also tried the option in the Tools>Tests>speedtree test/ cad test while in the toolset, the first option does nothing while the Speedtreecad Export also crashes..

I run Win7.. Is the Speedtree software able to run DX11? I assume it is DX11 ready but..

What Windows log(s) should I check to look for more info on the crash? I believe I have error reporting turned off.., lemme turn it on and see what type of message I get (ill post answer soon..)

EDIT: ok, here goe sa screeny from the win error reporting - http://i192.photobuc...epiece/err3.jpg
Hope this helps!Posted Image

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Toolset and/or Speedtree? I am NOT an expert, but maybe something fouled up on the install.

Normal Caveat -- make sure you back up everything, especially your database, if you decide to uninstall/reinstall, etc.

Yep, yep.. even upgrade to the newer version of the toolset and game patch.. still the same effect :( Could this be a DX issue??
