Hi there. So I am having problems with Dragon Age: Origins. After contacting local EA Support, I got only as far as "We havn't encountered anyone with this problem yet, please stay patient.". Then I got the idea that someone may have the same issue worldwide, so I came here to ask for help...

What edition of the game you have (original release or Ultimate Edition):
Original Release (DVD): Works for several hours, able to somehow load savefiles. Honestly, with this standalone version, I don't actually recall any problems in the very few hours I played, but I am not sure if I can apply the DLC for UE to this version.
Ultimate Edition (Digital Download provided via local distributor): Ditto + DLC works
Ultimate Edition (Digital Download from Origin - local distributor's CD key unlocked the game for Origin): Crashes when trying to launch.
What patch version you have (see below for help):
1.01 Retail working; made it as far as the first town after Ostagar, completed some quests, everything went just fine
1.03 Digital Download UE local distribution: Working; made it as far as Fade during Mage Tower, any subsequent attempt to launch any part of the game (save, new game) failed
1.05 Ultimate Edition on Origin: Doesn't work

NOT sure if this will help, but I still can generate characters via the standalone Character Generator.

Your hardware specs (see below for hints finding these).  Please include :
processor type and speed: AMD Phenom II X4 940@2.60GHz (UC for silence)

amount of system RAM: 4GB DDRII@1066MHz
your display adapter type, its RAM, and its driver version: ATi Radeon HD5750 1GB; newest Catalyst driver (3.12)
your sound adapter: Onboard Realtek chip

Your specific version of Windows, including if it is 32 or 64-bit: Win7 64bit Ultimate with all patches applied
If you have any third party mods installed: None
Finally... a complete description of your problem, including what steps you've already taken to resolve it:
Encountered on thursday. After trying to get to any loading, the game crashes into BSOD. Error name: IRLQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Core dumps so fast that I was unable to find the exact location, sadly.
So far I have tried re-installing the game via Origin, no help. Reinstalling and applying patch, no help. Un-installing, eradicating every file left behind, installing again and patching - made it past the menu, the game engine tries to load, crashes.
When I tried to run the game in administrator mode, I got "awc.dll missing"; installed Adobe Air, no longer got any message, just the core dump.
I may try to install the DVD version and just forbid it from patching, but I am not sure that is a) possible B) compatible with DLCs. And since one of the DLCs I am supposedly entitled to is Awakening (THE reason why I bought UE in the first place), it will be very sad.

I never use digital download versions, so I'm not sure if that's relevant.

The only times I've ever seen BSODs myself with Dragon Age where either when my it seemed like my GPU/CPU couldn't handle it and crashed: nv4_disp.dll or something like that, with an 8800GT Super+ card.  Ended up being down to PSU that had aged far faster than it should have.

The other time was a basic video card driver version issue.

I tried another run, and I was able to figure out what crases.
It is called tdx.sys. It is a TranslateDirectX file that should allow for communication between application and GPU, working as a system pre-driver.
What strikes me as weird is that DA:O is 1) the only program having this issue and 2) only having this issue after the patch applies.
A few days ago, I was seriously considering the possibility that my system is damaged, but this seems downright strange, given that I play games almost non-stop (I am media student, specialising in New Media, so I do it for study purposes. You can say I game for about two hours a day this semestr).

In the latest patch notes "Fixed an issue where some users with DirectX10-era video cards were experiencing significant lag within menus and interfaces as well as sudden spikes in area load times." Maybe there's a connection?

Personally, I've never seen a problem with the patch, so at a guess maybe it's more down to a file corruption occuring during installation/updating. As tedious as it sounds, perhaps a full uninstall and reinstall of DA will help a fresh application of the patch do better.

There may be other issues to do with tdx.sys, amongst one of the many search results: http://www.sevenforu...bsod-fixed.html

Is there a way how to apply the patch manualy? Since DA:O is usually located in my Program Files folder, I need to patch it in Administrator mode, rather then Protected (default).

Also, I may give a try to installing the base (working) game, then turning the autopatcher off, patch manualy and THEN apply the DLC, if possible... But I am not sure if I can get Awakening this way.

EDIT: Applying the patch manually in Administrator mode worked, I can get to character creation so far, wich means that the 3D resources (of patch 1.05) are there. Trying to get my DLC now.

EDIT2: Through tedious means of manual patching and manual adding of DLC, I was able to get to this state:
Base Game: 1.01CZ Retail

AddOns: 1.05 patch; DLC Return to Ostagar; DLC Warden's Keep; DLC Sword of the Blight (not sure how it is called in English though) Blitghplight; DLC Blood Dragon Armor; DLC Stone Prisoner

WORKS: Intializing a new game, saving, loading, saving/loading in online mode; in-game achievments and online synchronisation; everything works even after reboot/shutdown of the computer.

DOESN'T WORK: Unable to get any DLC via in-game system, resulting in not being able to get any DLC I can't get files for (mainly Awakening at the moment); also unable to get DarkSpawn Chronicles DLC due to my base game being CZ and the DLC accepting only English games.

WORKAROUNDS USED: Installing the game from CD (automatically in Administrator mode); installing Patch 1.05 manually (Administrator mode); Installing DLC Manually throught DA:O Updater (Administrator mode); Installing Standalone DLCs by saving and running them as Administrator.

Can hardly call the issue "solved", because I am cut from a portion of the content I should have, but I guess this is as far as I get. I also lost the previous save due to me not having the content, but ohwell..

Wow... Sooo... Meanwhile, I got new Awakening code from EA Customer support. Sooo, the issue seems to be solved, as I have all content available. My thanks goes to ShinsFortress and EA Customer support.

You're welcome. Not everyone has had a good experience with EA support, but I'm happy you've got the right result in the end!
