The robes in Origins were not that bad, but the reason they were not bad because your character did not have as much bending and turning animation as in Dragon Age 2.
Then when you come across a mage robe that looks, OK, I start wanting to change it myself to make it better.
An example of this would be “The Robes of the Void.” During Act 2, I spent a good amount of it wearing this robe. However, I desperately wanted to alter it, reason being is I immediately thought of Santa Clause.
What I would have done:
*Removed the long sleeves and the fabric on the shoulders.
*Create a calf slit up both sides of the robe.
*Removed that ugly white fur around the middle of the robe.
*For the boots, removed the high heel look and created flat boots and the boots go up to the calf of the leg.
When it comes to Robes for female mages in Dragon Age 2, it looks constricting for my character, itchy and a bathrobe. Other mage robes come off looking like bed sheets.
And idea for a robe in Dragon Age 3 would be this.
I would change the robe color to a nice burgundy and put a pair of black pants under it and complete it with a pair of calf high flat black boots.
The robe above is simple, elegant and does not give off that bathrobe/bed sheet or constricting look. And to me it fits in nicely with the DA world.
