Is there anything I can do about this, or have I wasted my money and have to rebuy it on Steam?

So I own DA:O on steam, and I just (stupidly) bought Awakenings on Origin. Origin will not let me install Awakenings, probably because the main game is on the Steam platform. (The error popup has no text)

Put your Steam DA:O CD Key in Origin and it should show up in your games list.

Hey, Gloops. Yeah I did add it to Origin, but the files were still on Steam (Origin just launches the game through Steam), so it would not install. I COULD have tried to uninstall on steam, and then reinstall through Origin, but I was impatient and bought the Ultimate Edition, to get the DLCs as well.
Wasted the money for Awakenings, but that's alright. Thanks for the advice.

No man. I'm in the same boat as you, except i bought DAO off steam in 2010, and awakenings from Origins in 2011. It worked just fine on my old rig, but trying to reinstall it on my new machine I get the same error message as you. If I follow the install path and click directly on the installer I get the message "This version of the Dragon Age Awakenings Installer is not compatible with the language version of your Dragons Age: Origins installation".
C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Origin Games\\ is the default directory for Windows 7 if you want to check it out yourself.
Spoke to EA tech support, who were completely and totally unhelpful. Surpise.
For the record my DAO is listed as eng-us in the configuration utility, and the Origin info seems to indicate an en-us version of awakenings. And as I stated earlier, this configuration worked 2 months ago on my last PC.

Given the differences, you should start your own thread, following Raen Imrahl's reporting guide. When it comes to either Windows Vista or Windows 7, the default \\program files install is a bad idea. It was fine for Windows XP, but problematic for newer OSes.

Your best best is to uninstall BOTH games and then reboot your computer. Even better is to make sure you remove any registry keys from your system... there's a guide that may help at https://help.ea.com/...gon-age-origins
Once that's done, install both games (first DAO and then DA:Awakening) via the EA Origin client. Once *that* is complete (I'd reboot again)... manually install the 1.05 patch.
