Greetings All,

I am starting a new project called The Rift.  This project will be needing a lot more skill than I can muster by myself in developers, concept artists, 3-D modelers, writers, and Voice Actors.  So far we have about 2-3 writers, 2 Voice Actors, and 2 3-D Modlers and we need quite a few more.

Without spoiling the add-on itself, it will extend the game past the credits but we are also trying to avoid (though it may not be possible) any clashing with future versions of Dragon Age via a character importer.  The story lines we are creating are done so to be as immersive as humanly possible, with 8 new monster models, including OLD D&D1 models like Chimeras, Bone Golems, Murkgliders, Skykrins.  We are, just from the story board we have so far, estimating anywhere from 60-100 hours of constant gameplay in this add-on (yes its going to be HUGE) and will come to a playable ending (allowing the player to revisit the map areas to re-explore, gather missed items, and enter re-populating dungeons!!!

If you are interested in an epic develpment project, by all means, let us know!  The Mod's website is currently at www.darift.com where all of our concepts are currently being stored... We do maintain a community face here on the BioWare social site, but our activities takes place on our website..

Again and to recap, we need:
1.  3-D Modelers & Texturing - Must be proficient in HDR, Normal Mapping, LOD, and Specular/Particle effects.
2.  Voice Actors - We are really looking for a Morrigan, Lelianna, Sten, Alister, Queen Anora, and a Zeveran sound-alike.  We are also needing voices for an entirely new cast of characters as well.
3.  Writers - We have a story board up -- a general idea of things to be written, but what we need is others to help write the dialogue, and the subsenance and fill any holes on the board.  There are also sub-projects avialable for writers to tackle to create and implement sub-quests for this add-on.
4.  ToolSet Experts - Most of us are utter idiots when it comes to that toolset -- I, myself, have created many of mods with the TES Construction Set and was able to learn it rather quickly.  This however lol... Well if you have skill in it, you will be a breath of relief and fresh air in the Rift community lol.

I'll give a quick overview to this add-on/expansion that I hope will get the attention of some interested modeling experts and toolset experts.

This story line takes us into the future after the slaying of the archdemon 19 years to a point where the player's choices effects every storyline of this content. The player is come back into interaction with all of his/her previous party members except Wynne, Shale, Loghain, and Morrigan, though some of them may appear later on in the content. The player finds him/herself in the middle of an unfolding apocalypse that the player started just 19 years before-hand. "THE RIFT" named by the Ancient Teventer Mages as being a phenomena where the gates that were once built to interface with the fade has been torn asunder allowing all manners of discord into the physical realm.

There is only one way to stop this, and only one way to keep the world you know in tact. You must find someone you met long ago whom wishes not to be found as she holds the key to closing this gate, Flemith's Grimiour and we all know she will not give this up easily!

As you progress in this content, you find that this rift is getting larger, almost as if the closer you get, the more you're very presence causes it to tare open and swallow more of the lands. The larger it gets, the more that the physical realm and the fade clash together until you learn at the very epicenter where this has occured, that mankind can freely enter the black-city itself without ever entering the fade. The black city has taken physical form upon the physical realm.

We hope that this strikes some intrests with some artists in developing some graphical conscepts and areas of this city, as our plan is to design a city, that reflects the "OPPOSITE" of what is casted on it... So light is turned to the opposite spectrum, and it is said that when people approach this city, they can see opposites of themselves in the reflective surfaces, and even interact with them!

Again, if you are interested, let us know! We have a great story coming along, one that will pack in more than another 100 hours of game play and a lot of RP opritunities with opritunity to develop more relationships and romance stories.

Again the website is www.darift.com .

This sounds very interesting and I'll be happy to help "beta-test" if I'm needed.

We have it set up so anyone wanting to beta-test can register on the site and download any sniplet files we have. They are all able to be installed with the updater, but keep the readme files for uninstall info, as they're pieces, and not a full set (exported just for testing while we're developing he he).

We also just got permission this after noon from the Phantom of the Opera franchise to use 2 of their songs in our sound-track! This is very exciting news for us because we were really distressed about some of the scenes and finding really good audio to set the mood, and now, we have it! They did of course request that we place them on the credits page as contributers to the AddIn, which I don't think we'd have any problems with =)

There are several features we're trying to get implemented that we know is possible through the toolset (some people have done them already) but for the most part, the Teventer Imperium will be opened up for the player to research the old magics in which may save his/her child as well as opening up Orlay. We've been trying to figure ways to keep Orlay out of it, just because we don't have enough voice actors at the moment to really keep up the French theme. We have many plans for this, and over all, its looking more and more like it will be just as large as the main game itself, which may pose some size issues. We're wanting to launch a quality and full-scale expansion, but as of the moment staff/wo(man)power is not showing to be at an acceptable number yet.

Right now we have approximately 4 dedicated voice actors, 1 Tool Set modder (myself) that doesn't know the toolset that well yet, 4 writers, and no one in lines of 3d modeling, graphic arts, or audio mixing which are crucial roles in this project.

Here are some of the plot highlights thus far:

1. Player passes 19 years of peace (which is narrarated)

2. Darkspawn hunt player's child

3. Player must immunize child

4. Player is given 5 Right of Conscription papers (will allow the player to conscript some NPC's that are otherwise unwilling to join your party/cause).

5. Player is made Senior Grey Warden of Ferelden.

6. Player's Child joins the Grey Wardens.

7. Player discovers the "Rift" in the Teventer Imperium.

8. The closer the player's child comes to the "Rift" the larger it gets consuming the land and allowing the fade to literally converge with the lands. (At the end of the game, the player will be able to enter the physical Black City, and perform a ritual that will either save the player's child's life or get rid of the darkspawn forever. Naturally this is a very sadistic choice to make and I can say there are many more choices like this that will pop up that will be just as emotionally involving.)

9. Once leaving the black city and returning home, it is end-game -- the player finds Ferelden in disarray -- expansion ends, leaving it open to another pack =).

There is much more to the story line, but those are the.. Acts of the story... each act contains about 5-9 chapters except the first Act which only has 2 chapters.

this one looks very promising. Unfortunately my technical skills are very low but if you need plot help I'm here.

Yes we could certainly use all the help we can get right now. For the amount of content we have planned we only have about 20% of our staff positions filled.

I am a 3D modeler. I just started a project for a remodel of all of DA's weapons to diversify the experience. You can follow the link in my signature for details. I would be more than happy to share the assets with this mod. Let me know via PM.

Definitely interested in writing for this. Just give me a subject (Such as "Blayze! Make me a quest!"), and I'll vomit words onto the screen until the end of time if need be.

@Godeshus: That is awesome news, you'll be the first 3D modeler/artists on the project so it may be a bit overwhelming in all the ideas we're wanting to see 3-D style. If we're too much for ya, just let us know =)

@Blayzereborn: We got ya on the forums over there... Welcome aboard =)

Just an update:

We should be releasing our preview/teaser video here soonish.. It will contain some ending sequence video of the game within the video in order to lead-into the new content's features. So far for this video, we plan to release many of our concept arts and models in the video as well as a sound-track from one of our musical sponsors that will be announced when we release the content ;)

We are still in desperate need of toolset experts or those that can script within the toolset or add new landscaps (doors, trees etc) as well as fashon togther meshes with textures to create a new monster, weapon, shield, armor, etc.

I am happy to annouce that we have schedueled the date in which the preview trailer for the expansion will be available. We expect this will be release on our website (and possibly here) on December 30, 2009.

This is only a preview and trailer video and only portrays some of the story line we plan on introduceing in a cematic way as well as a display of some of the concepts and content already completed.

This expansion in total is only about 10% complete. We're still needing 3-D artists, Texture Artists, and Concept Design Artists. Right now and without these folks the development process is at a crawl but we hope to have these folks recruited into the team by January 10, 2010.

At the time the expansion/content pack is released, we plan on immediately following it up with the (no kidding) novel that our team has put together for us. We will be releasing this novel in EBook form and will start the distribution price at $1.00 per copy. The expansion however, remains free of charge for distribution and play.

We also expect that this content pack will add MORE THAN 40 HOURS OF GAMEPLAY to the Dragon Age: Origins game by extending the game past the victory over the Archdemon. We have sat and planned this and gone over the figures and projected man-power and we do estimate that there should be at the very least 35 hours of gameplay, but we're shooting more for 50 hours right now. To pick a fair figure, that would be 40 hours. This also means that this content pack is likely to be as big as the game itself. We hope this does not under-play BioWare's wonderful work.

We have had a few complaints that this pack is not jive with the Dragon Age Cannon. This is partially true, but not intended. We intended to address solely the aspect of finishing the game at the edge of a cliff; and our imaginations ran rampart.

Lands Opened Up:
Ferelden (reopened after the archdemon kill)
The Dales
Orlais
Teventer Imperium
Antivia

Each one of these lands will play an important role in the main quest line and each land will also be filled with cities and dungeons.

Points of Intrest
We have decided that the expansion will contain epic weaponry and armor. By definition, there will be a ton of quest lines you will have to complete in order to be granted these weapons but once you have obtained one, you will be near god-like. The weapons will all have custom models, custom names, custom lore/codex, and custom stats and damage. You can view the project hosted here with BioWare for a preview of some of the weapon/dagger models.

We expect to be wrapping this expansion up and have it ready for beta release (not alpha) by late Febuary '10 to early March '10.

This is becoming a very organized project, and a lot of custom writings are being submitted and accepted. One of which that has been accepted is an invasion by Orlais into Ferelden that the player will single handedly advert OR allow. I can't give away any more details, but I will say that each and every reader has my personal word that it will be unlike any other content package written by a group of volunteers :)

Looks great guys. Out of curiosity, and sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but is this mod assuming that you took the option Morrigan provided you with near the end? Just curious because the teaser video talks about love, and having a baby with someone, so I was just curious if that was the assumption and if there will be any plans to say what happened if that option wasn't taken, or perhaps your character was in love with someone else.
