Cassandra implies (especially if you recruit Carver in to the Grey Wardens), that the Grey Wardens were drawn into the Mage-Templar war. Given that, were the dwarves or Dalish drawn in as well? What about the Qunari? And does it affect the Tevinter Imperium (given the fact the Chantry doesn't exist in Tevinter, and mages aren't oppressed there, I'd say the most help the Tevinter gives would be resources to the mages, if that.

Nothing is really explained in game. The feeling is that all the resentment and hatred in so many places that built up over time has exploded. In asunder it shows that Orlais is undergoing a civil war. Noblemen could have their way with common women . The nobilities decadence could have damaged the government beyond repair. So the most powerful chantry nation could lead to the Qunari or even the Imperium to expanding their influence.

oh, one more question. Does someone at Bioware love Babylon 5? I had asked this in the Awakening section, but got no response, and there's more to it in DA2. The Awakening one is subtle, but there in the quest title "What is Built Endures." In DA2, Mage-Templar War = Telepath War (and I swear Anders should have a line like this: "No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Though it take a thousand years, we will be free."
