Geez people, sometimes things happen
when Shepard isn't around to dictate it. That's one of the best things
about Mass Effect, the world is filled with well defined characters who
do their own thing.

When you catch them they try and cover it up, meaning they were hiding it. Shepard wasn't even supposed to know.

Much like with Gabby and Kenneth...well, I guess not in that case since that'll onyl happen if Shepard encourages it.

If you genuinely feel that the writers were just trying to forcibly put Tali and Garrus into a relationship for no real good reason, then we're at a bit of an impasse.  I have no issues with the sequence and have seen situations like that happen in real life (between some of my own friends actually).  /shrug

The mere fact that you stumble upon them and they're embarrassed gives an indication that they weren't exactly being upfront with the rest of the crew on their feelings, and it likely slowly developed.  I'm sure a big part of what Tali appreciated was Garrus manning up and apologizing for his crass statements before.  Nevermind that the game follows Shepard so the idea that the crew may interact amongst themselves when Shepard isn't around also isn't far fetched.

Try to imagine it in this context: a friend of yours tried going out with this girl, and it was hard to be in the relationship because she sad she had a medical condition. Then you see her with another dude and that medical problem in no way an issue. Or conversely, with Garrus, you're in an inter racial relationship with someone, and they're having a hard time because of the "race" thing... and then you see a yearbook photo of him making out with somone of another race... if you think about it, it might be weird, so just try to ignore it.

Again, it could be cool for some people, and I think they added it because fans were asking for it. I felt it was out of place. The more I think of it, the more I would've liked the pairing of Kaiden and Tali or Garrus and Ashley depending on who lived on Vermire. Kaiden and Tali are already pretty close an seemed to hit it off on a biotic/techy intellectual level which makes more sense then "I just want him for his body" [yeah, I know it's a flirty joke, but c'mon.... lame]. Ashley and Garrus are actual opposits attract in which their issues are kind of the same. Interspecies is still kind of an issue with them and they're both the field ops characters. Plus it's more of an unlockable in a situation more than, "if you don't sleep with either of them, they'll do it themselves."

Compatible personalities, chemistry, fondness for one another, having an actual relationship on some level (as opposed to "well, they've always been hanging around...even though they never speak to each other, something COULD have been going on in the background") - none of these things seem to matter.  Apparently the only requirement for a successful relationship is compatible amino acids. :innocent:

i loved Fenabela to pieces. I even changed my canon Hawke to Merrill romancing one, so that Isabela coud be free for Fenris. So I am all for squaddie romances
And I love Tali and Garrus, because they are awesome. Especially Garrus. But that romance just felt off for me, I didn't feel any chemistry there. I think Tali + Reegar would have worked much better, actually.
So yeah, if there was a way to prevent them from hooking up, I would have been happier gamer than I am now. Call me a dick if you must

i missed that this could even happen lol, ive always romanced liara anyways. although i kinda feel im messing things up by romancing liara - tali + garrus, EDI + joker, i feel Liara and Javik should logicially hook up, so i'd be left with Ashley... thats my thoughts anyway lol (unless ash got with Vega... damn)

This is one of the reasons I would never play ME3 without an ME2 import. There is the all-important file import with Tali as LI, and in the other ME2 files I send Garrus into the vent. I hear that an unloyal Garrus also might not survive shuttling the crew back to the Normandy. I'll try that next time. So, indeed, some of your choices in the series really do matter. Hah.

I really don't like them hooking up it's just weird to me.

Also the reasoning bioware gave "well they had a moment in ME2" it's just Garrus teasing Tali. If that was the set up to them hooking up it's really weak.

That said I always romance Tali and in my one playthrough that wasn't w/ tali I just avoided those scenes :)

Uh... dudes... it's Tali.

Talifappers may not romance her in every playthrough, but that doesn't mean she still isn't their property.  Just because they ain't hittin' it, don't mean anyone else can.

She's gotta be pure, that slice gotta be untainted until their masterly ShepMojo has time to be a-tapp'n, them sweet, sweet, sweet Talijuices uncontaminated by even the thought of anyone but them have their tastytaste, like a tightly-packed suited-up purple Elf-y cotton candy...  oh, yeeeeahhhh.....

Hell, there's likely a subset of Taliclowns that probably even resent that other people own the game, because that means someone not them is having Tali whisper sweet nothings in ears not their own.

It's not like Garrus and Tali could have kids, dextro-alike or not.  They're still two seperate species, regardless. The second Tali even envinces interest in anyone not a Talifan, she becomes a filthy, lying backstabbing Taliwh0re.  She is ruined, made impure and imperfect. Life ends.  The universe loses meaning, light, heat, purpose.

Of course, you have to be a Pure TaliFan, a True TaliFan, One Of The Chosen By Tali, to understand the subtle nuances at play involving the lustfully respectful *snicker* worship of the One True Quarian Goddess.

It's no wonder y'all be missing the point so hard.

Well at least they can drink the same wine and not get poisoned.

Not like your Shepard can do that. So leave them be, they are cute. They can watch Fleet and Flotila together. Garrus obviously enjoys soaps.

Look at Joker/Edi even if you dont encouradge them, they still ignore you. This is when the Destroy ending comes handy. :D

Yup. It's a joke. Just encapsulating up the general brainless Talilust usually slathered all over her "official" thread and anywhere she's even peripherally mentioned.

...and yeah, it was a swipe at Talifans - not all Talifans, just the creepy, stalky ones - which unfortunately to everyone not a Talifan - is the perception of most Talifans.

Which this thread does nothing to help change.

So if you don't like something that Bioware put into the game, you are therefore creepy and stalky. That makes perfect sense. So is everyone who doesn't like the EDI/Joker pairing a creepy Joker stalker too?

As I see it, Tali is my love interest and Garrus is my best friend (or vice versa if I'm FemShep).

If ANYONE deserves the right to be with Tali if I don't make a move, it's Garrus. In this alternate universe, I'm more than okay with the greatest character in the Mass Effect universe shacking up with the greatest set of hips in the galaxy.

Doesn't bother me at all, I don't see why people are getting so worked up about it o.0

I mean, if you didn't romance either Tali or Garrus then...well, that's your own fault. I thought it was actually pretty nice to see two crewmates other then Shepard getting together, and those two have been present in all three games. In all honesty, I saw the romance coming from a mile away. I'm surprised many others didn't.

Not that i've actually seen this development happen in game - not yet, at least. I'm a Talimancer to the core =P But I have no problems with seeing Garrus and Tali getting together, none whatsoever.

I've seen many people say this, but what exactly happened in the game to cause you to see this "from a mile away".  Are you talking about throughout the series, or in ME3 only?  Because yeah, in the second half of ME3 it becomes obvious that the writers are trying to jam this "romance" into the end of the game.  But in ME2 or earlier - I just don't see it.

Tbh I missed that in my first (and only) playthrough. And I am glad I did. Not because I hate them being happy, but there is a reason I didn't romance Tali. Well, aside from Liara. Simply they could not have children. It would be better for them to romance someone ... matching.

Is that true? Did anybody check? On a relating note, I just realized they probably aren't even married to each other! Blasphemy! Sodom and Gommorah! Other biblical exclamations!

I can't describe it as being something painstakeingly obvious that everyone would notice, but I guess I just got an itch. A feeling. Little, subtle hints that I noticed whilst playing.

For the record, i'm a PS3 user. So i've never played ME1. However, i've heard about their bickering and quarraling in the elevators - doubt this indicates much, but it's worth noting.

As for ME2, they were the only two squaddies from ME1 to return as ME2 teammates. There was that little exchange on the Citadel, though that doesn't count for much. What really got me thinking though, was that turian/quarian couple on Illium - the moment I saw that turian hitting on the quarian I thought "aha!". I know for a fact many other people made that same link as well. It makes me wonder if the devs put that in delibaretly to foreshadow them getting together.

As I said, these ARE just little hints and they don't count for much. But I made the connection straight away, even if many others didn't. I went into ME3 fully expecting them to get together (well, not in my playthrough obviously =P) and woe and behold, they did.

I thought the turian/quarian couple on Illium in ME2 was there to give more information about how quarians make their romantical relationships work in terms of what they can and cannot do.

As for Tali and Garrus's quarelling - Garrus is just being an **** towards her in ME1.

Thanks for the reply.  I play on PS3 as well.  I would say I used Tali and Garrus as my squadmates for roughly 80% of ME2 missions.

It's interesting, because I saw the things you mentioned completely differently.  The "elevator" dialogue seemed to me seemed like more of a throwback joke to ME1 than flirting.  At least I didn't see any mutual flirting.  Garrus might have been trying, LOL.

As for the Turian and Quarian at the bar, the way I thought about it was - hmmm, that's interesting, so Turians and Quarians CAN get along.  This surprised me b/c Tali and Garrus didn't even seem to like each other, really.

So I guess it comes down to people interpreting the same scenarios in different ways.  I still don't see anything IN ME2 that would suggest any romance potential.  They pretty much ignored each other most of the game. Which is why I think putting them together after ME2 requires a TON of headcanoning.

To be honest, I think Tali and Garrus' relationship developed more on forums than it did in the game.  I think enough people expressed interest in non-Shep romances and liked the idea of Tali and Garrus together, that BW put it in the game to satisfy these fans.

I mean, hasn't it pretty much been accepted that Tali and Garrus were included as LIs in the first place as fan service?

The main thing I find odd is that most people in favor of the Tali/Garrus hook-up seem completely unwilling to accept the possibility that fan service is reponsible for putting them together at the end of the game.  Why is this such a hard pill to swallow?

Such a compelling argument for a relationship. It's not like there could ever be two different bottles of wine on the table at the same time. And all the best couples only ever drink the same stuff, there are never any couples where one doesn't drink at all.

This is one of my biggest peeves about Tali/Garrus, the dextro argument. I respect them both too much to think they have to be together because of something so shallow.
