Evening,

I purchased ME3 today, even though I've heard the ending was terrible, because I've had the same character through the previous Mass Effect titles, and because I have faith in you, Bioware, as a (relatively) competent and trustworthy software developer. I'm not a hardcore fanboy of any of your particular series,  but a fan of your history and honorable pedigree.

I didn't play each ME title multiple times ad infinitum. I have a relatively busy existence, so I simply played through everything in ME1 when it came out, once, transferred the character to ME2 when it was released, and completed the game in it's entirety, once. That saved career has been safely held onto, and transferred to an Xbox 360 Slim from the old HDD via a transfer cable, along with the ME2 Importer and all DLC from both games, when my classic 30 started to go.

The old HDD is gone, I assumed that since the Xbox 360 has the shortest operational lifetime since video game consoles first appeared in the 80's, that someone, somewhere in the EA hierarchy would have realized that some lame excuse about transfer licenses wasn't going to cut it to legacy players, and to a software development company who has a credible image to uphold.

I didn't buy this game to play as just any generic Shepard with a cookiecutter background. I bought it to play as Davin Shepard, Alliance brat, survivor with a heart of gold, who protected the council.  He spared the Rachni. Talked down his formidable friend and ally, Wrex of Clan Urdnot, before he got himself into trouble on Vermire, while in the line of fire sacrificing the life and lineage of Sergeant Williams for the sake of Lieutenant Alenko's rare and unique strengths. I played this epic as one reads a deep and inspiring book, deliberately and thoughtfully, and now, for my efforts and dues paid, both in time to the game and in purchases, both for games I believed in and DLC content that I did not, to you, Bioware, out of respect for your product, I'm getting the shaft. Because you didn't foresee an issue with licenses.

You're a successful company. You've got the staff, the expertise. Fix this.  Please don't walk away from a product that you're still making profit from, from a dedicated gamer from whom you have gained financially, and who has profited recreationally in turn from your product. Show some compassion in hearing my plea. The die is cast on my end, I've lived up to my part of the End User Agreement. Now I just want to play the damned game, as the character I have spent my time on. As the character I was promised.

Respectfully,

Daniel M. Hummel, IV

If this is aimed specifically at BioWare then I would suggest you clarify the actual issue that prompted you to write such an eloquent piece of writing. Aside from a vague mention of licenses and changing 360s I can't actually tell what the issue you are having is, which may make it difficult for them to assist you (if assistance is what you are seeking and even then the help here is from fellow gamers and not BioWare; official support is provided by EA support).

Dude....What the hell are you talking about?
Are you talking about the license transfer or something ells that no one understands?if you're having problems with you're game/import then be specific because not even I am sure what you're trying to say here.

Gentlemen,

I am looking at the saved files that I have 'sheparded' through the previous two installments of Mass Effect, awaiting the release of this final segment. However, Mass Effect 3 does not recognize the saves. I used a Microsoft transfer cable to pull the files from the old legacy 360 HDD onto the current Slim several months back. ME3 refuses to recognize my saves as a legitimate career, and I do not understand why, but would imagine that it has something to do with licenses.

Ohh okay now I see,
I do know that if you used the cloud save feature on xbox live with me2 that me3 would not import you're old saves.but if you transfer save data from one hdd to another should not be an issue unless you are correct about the license problem.

I did move said files from the HD to Cloud, but only after ME3 did not recognize them, thinking it might change something. I have read that the save files can be altered via a Horizon save editing tool on the pc, but I would rather avoid this and just have the game work the way it's supposed to.

I transferred all my Xbox 360 content to a new box in December, and haven't had the same problem. Did you transfer your licenses? (xbox.com / My Account / Device Management / Transfer Licenses) It was about a half an hour of A button hell to confirm them all, but I haven't had any issues since.

Bump. ME3 is not accepting my legacy character.

TLDR; I used a transfer cable to put the data on a new xbox.

I would hazard a guess that the issue stems from having used Cloud at some point for your ME2 saves; officially, even before ME3 was released, it was announced that it wouldn't support Cloud. Now...whether that's enough to somehow render those saves unusable is the question.

Also...'legacy character'. This is vague. Do you mean to write that ME3 does not see any of your ME2 save games? Or that your character does not import correctly?

The second is a bug, albeit a very poor bug that managed to get out, and patch 1.02 should resolve most cases (though I still some claiming they still have a problem).

All I can suggest for the first is reload a ME2 save, post-Suicide Mission of course, and then save the game again by creating a new save. Technically this new save would never have been on Cloud and hopefully avoids that issue. However, some users have also had similar problems in getting ME3 to recognise ME2 saves (I am unsure whether theirs are Cloud related).

I wouldn't expect a response from BioWare. They really don't give a **** about their customers or their problems and concerns.
