I often sneak up on phantoms and blow their head off with a claymore. It sucks though, those times that they can see you even while you're cloaked. Worse, when they automatically pull you in to a one-hit death move from several feet away, literally, my character slowly walked over to a phantom to be stabbed and I couldn't do anything but take that slow walk toward death. But I like the gold challenge of phantoms. Personally, I'd like to take a stab at a map with nothing but phantoms.

krogan battlemasters LAUGH at phantoms, especially with the graal.

Maybe it's just slight lag, but I keep finding phantoms run through my stasis bubbles or just ignore a direct hit to the face. Of course, their stab works without a hitch <_<

You forgot the roll back part. If you try to Nova a Phantom right out of Charge they can and will OHKO you, or melee stagger you. On Gold as a Vanguard if you are staggered, you're pretty much going to die if any other enemies are able to target you.

Well, I expect everyone who plays a HVanguard out there to know it(or GTFO that class) and this is not a tips&tricks thread. :P
Actually this should be the way to play against any enemy, not just Phantoms and other insta-killers. A lot of them can stagger you on close range. And as you pointed out, this is most likely a death sentence on higher difficulties when there are others around.

It's the ranged attack that is broken. If all three shots hit, and unless to can hit/change cover as soon as you hear that first shot coming they will, most of the non-tough characters will go down. It is the only ranged unit in the game that can kill you that quickly.

Unless you get the glitch I have happened three times on Silver. Charged, before the whole charge sequence was complete, she intercepted my charge with her instant kill blade. Pretty much stuck the blade tip in my path and flew into it. So much for "invulnerable" when charging...

Stasis works great. Except when I'm trying to line up headshots on a phantom I just stasis'd and someone on my team panic shoots them with an smg. That's frustrating.

My GI melee build loves Phantoms... spent the weekend taking out more than 90% of phantoms in every game we played. Team would call them out, and I'd prox mine / heavy melee to death. Not a single death from going toe to mechanical toe with them.

Well I agree with the OP..the Phantom is much more dangerous than the Atlas.
I killed more if them than they did me over the weekend but they got their hits in.
One team I was with looked strong until wave 9 when a pair of Phantoms nailed all of us from behind.
They arent unstoppable but they are an enemy worthy of respect.

I don't think that is a glitch. In my experience as a HV, if you charge a full barriered, not-warped phantom on Gold who is looking at you, she almost ALWAYS intercepts your charge with her sword and staggers you. Then you can't Nova, which means you're pretty much toast.

3 best ways to prevent that:
- Get her reaved/warped/stasised before you charge her
- Use weapons to wear down her Barrier far enough. If you take down her barrier with your first charge, she gets staggered and then you can Nova.
- If she is in cover run up to her and Nova first. She gets staggered, and your following charge takes her Barrier down completely. Then it's almost easy.

The most fun/challenge I can have is trying to take out 1 or 2 phantoms with my Human Vanguard on Gold without any help. It's almost as if I'm playing against another human player.
Sometimes I feel like saying "well played, ma'am" when I finally kill a Phantom after a prolonged fight.

Phantoms die easy if you shoot right.

AA - Stasis and headshot till 1/2 barrier bars, then warp MELLEEEEEE

AJ - Reave and keep behind cover, spam reave and shoot till he no barrier bars. If close use melee at suitable distance since they freeze and can't move. With 0 barrier, they fly back so you can spam mellee or shoot. :)

A viable tip for a lot of situations. If you don't have to charge to get to your target, Nova first.
If you specced for power recharge, you even get the 25% bonus right away and not just after the second charge.

they don't glitch like that in stasis. that's the funniest thing i've read in a long time.

maybe you don't realize they usually spawn in pairs and if you are near their spawn there will be two of them.

phantoms aren't bad. they make it exciting when you see them spawn from across the map. stasis makes them a joke. they'll either be dead or in another bubble when stasis breaks on them. When they stroll up on you you must turn your focus and take them out. I killed a ton of phantoms this weekend.

As has been repeatedly stated, there are a ton of class combos and power combos that render Phantoms obsolete. As such they are very far from 'broken'. Yes, the cannon. We have dismissed...err I mean everyone and his grandmother already knows that it is a killer if you let it hit you. It's the thing that separates Cerberus from Geth, other than grenades. So, DON'T let it. Spot the phantom early (basically the key to defeating them), flush it out of cover, profit. Work as a team and call them out on the mike. It really isn't that bad.

if the bubble is specced for warp you only need one biotic power for detonations and not two, warp bubble helps with swarming phantoms by setting up detonation the moment they step in the bubble.

If phantoms got nerfed cerberus would be far too easy.

As far as stasis and phantoms are concerned the biggest problems is morons who cant head shot them shooting so they fall over.
