As much as I didn't want to respond to this thread I will for the hell of it.

Is it possible the answer is simple yes and no. From a natural stand point it is impossible as everyone has said the DNA that the two species have are completely different, and would more than likely not even share the same fertilization process. Now from from a scientific stand point it is possible even in RL today it is possible to take certain characteristics from different genetic structures and place them in a unrelated structures. You eat a bi-product of this genetic manipulation every day when ever you are consuming corn. Corn has been manipulated to a stronger form to allow survivability in drought conditions and to be sweeter than previous versions. Therefore it is possible to create an off spring using gene splicing while still maintaining suspended disbelieve in the story line and scientific grounding. Now if you excuse me I need a show because I feel dirty for answer the question:P

Speaking realistically, it would be easier for you to reproduce with a (Earth) cow.

Not that any sort of fertile offspring would result.

It's impossible for humans to reproduce with all other known species. Technically Asari can reproduce with humans but humans can't reproduce with asari. (Yes it's pretty f***ed up!)

With Dextros it's even more impossible, because our body chemistry is different down to the base building blocks.

Most likely because Asari don't have a male member.

That'd only work if the two species used the same elements in the construction of their DNA. It's entirely possible the entire genetic structure of, say, the asari is radically different from that of humanity, and is only called DNA because it's a case of Did Not Do the Research.

Out of curiosity, does he say this if your LI is Liara?

As far as I know, It comes up on dialogue linked to romancing Tali.
Asari were biologically tampered with to stand a better chance against the reapers. They have a special rule established from Me1 about mating between species. Every other race else is rarely seen with other species.

It came up for my femshep romancing Garrus.  I think he also said something similar for my gay male shep.

No he doesn't.  Of course Javik understands it's not pointless with Asari.

With Mac Walters as lead writer anything is possible!

If Walters wrote it, then an alien would get pregnant with a human or vice versa.
But the mother would die in childbirth. Also, the baby would be stillborn. Also, the room they were in would explode for no good reason.

I think you'd have the same chances try to breed a human with a horse or a dog.

Only because there is a hole, doesn't mean there is a will :P

Edit: (Aww nuts got beaten to it)

^This. But I'd like to clarify that the chirality problem is not as big as it may seem, we know of enzymes capable of flipping it even today, they are expensive but they exist. The REAL problem is the number of chromosomes, unless quarians and turians have exactly the same number of chromosomes than humans having a viable offspring is pretty much impossible, even then there would be hundreds of other problems (among them, the chirality one).

Bottom line, as far as we are told, it's impossible in the ME universe to breed outside of your species, the only exception being Asari, but they use a trick and don't actually take genetic material from their mates, so...

You could conceivably try and engineer a viable offspring, but that would be easier said than done, and besides, engineering new life forms (especially if they have the potential to be sapient life forms) is totally illegal anywhere but the Terminus Systems...

I was just wondering because I always thought it would have been cool for Shepard to have a son or daughter at the end of the games (obviously that's not going to happen). I think I read here and there that Quarians and Turians cannot reproduce with humans (I romanced Tali, and if I played as FemShep I'd romance Garrus). Anyone know if that's true.

I don't know. First question would be: do Turians and Quarians have as many chromosomes as humans do?

Then we have the difference in amino acids, which according to Mordin could cause alergic reactions, potentially lethal if femshep would receive Garrus's...

That part of ME2 was hilarious

If tali and shep cant make children why does she have to look so human? Femshep at least has a reptile bird LI why cant maleshep get something exotic.

you share 95% of your DNA with some species of monkeys
can you have a baby with a monkey?
Turians humans and Quarians are not even from the same planet!
Turians and Quarians are dextro!
stop dreaming, go to biology classes

Btw, Miranda is infertile, so the only squad members you can get pregnant are Ashley and Liara (kinda).

When has Jack been infertile?

It would be cool but the only ones that can give Shepard biological childern are Ashley, Kaidan, Jack, and  Kelly. Liara can have an Asari baby with Shepard but the only option for everyone else is adoption.

lol same.

Plus if scientists like Mordin exist, I'm sure they can work out some crazy scientific solution if someone REALLY wants a hybrid.

Traynor could too. If Miranda can exist without a mother, two mothers shouldn't be a problem for modern technology.

Cortez technically could as well, though you'll need a surrogate mother I assume.

Allers too - clearly possible, since Snooki is pregnant.
