probably asked already, but c'mon 5 pages...
anyway, is the stagger on explosion a guaranteed effect? im not sure i am getting any myself

on a side note, since the last promotion i cant make up my mind about what weapon to put on this dude: already equip shotguns on a multitude of characters, im getting bored and looking for something else. im thinking of the revenant, as i usually am close enough to the target, spread doesnt really hinder me... but darn the little hurrican got way higher damage per bullet than the rev! rev looks cooler though... any non-shotty related suggestion? :)

Not on all enemies, but most.
On bosses they may not do enough damage to trigger a stagger.

fair enough :) what about standard shielded troops like centurions/rocket/hunters/engis/marauders then? should they suffer the effect?

oddly enough, i was on dagger covering the side stairs leading to the open area LZ (not the insertion zone one), and was chaining blade on packs of pyros/hunters. hunders did not seem to get the explosion stagger at all, while pyros got staggered quite often once their shield had been depleted... thats why im a bit puzzled but this staggering-explosion claim :)

Do you have any idea what a complete and utter brat you come off as?
People chose Cone because in its former state it was superior in every
way to the upgrade you ignorantly supported at the time. We got the most
out of the power while we could and you did what? Whine and post
sub-par guides. Good job.

Really starting to tell the difference between the
people who post guides here to help others and those who do it because
they're obnoxious know-it-alls

Learn to read ?

Also your analogy fails, Geth Infiltrator Melee build does not rely on a glitch to be effective.

(5) The Cone perk is currently bugged for
Ballistic Blade, allowing you to hit enemies that are behind you, this
makes it better than the damage perk, but only because it is bugged.

I'm very sorry for failing to notice a bug immediately, especially when the concerned perk "on paper" description makes it very subpar compared to the other choice. Exploiting bugs and promoting FOTM craze should be the main goal of all guide writers, really, what a fool I am.

It's not like we're talking about a
Geth Infiltrator's melee versus aiming with a Javelin here either so get
off your obnoxiously high horse. You're talking about skillful aiming
of a power with a 90 degree cone spread as if you're pulling off no
scopes through pinholes.

My wording might have been wrong, but a 90° angle does require and -train- you to be -more- aware (Being "more aware" or "reacting faster" does not equal sniping enemies through pinhole in my book.) of what's going on around you in order to react fast enough to stagger a potential threat, the Cone perk was highly detrimental in this regard, I did myself experience the "all out offense" feeling it allowed by taking care of targets that should have forced you to turn around/fall back.

And because I'm so arrogant, I prefer to avoid using it and become overconfident and warn people about over-using and becoming dependant of this glitch.

I mean, it's not like people are saying that Ballistic Blade is useless/underpowered now right ? Oh wait....

We got the most
out of the power while we could and you did what? Whine and post
sub-par guides. Good job.

You enjoyed being carried by a bugged ability, I got it. Please go back supporting no turret/full fitness/no support engineer builds with your m4d sk!llz, I can't wait to carry more dead-weight "unique snowflakes" following such "quality guides" in my games.

Cone nerf was obviously coming, but it has pretty much killed all of my
interest in the class. Cone blades made fights interesting in that you
could have engagements with enemies equipped with laser rifles and turn
them into old school fist fight brawls. Which is what batarians do damn
it!

Cone was definitely too good before. But 20 degree increase
is too little and needs a buff. Until then this class sits on the bench
for me.

You never experienced Batarian Soldier, you experienced being carried by a game breaking bug, giving up on the class now is like throwing the Falcon rifle away because it has been "adjusted" from "l33t FOTM gamebreaking' to "godly crowd control omni-range combo initiating" gun.

The Batarian Soldier is beastly. Cone perk or not.

Lol dude you have no idea what you are talking about.  i don't want to get into some pissing argument but you are frequently misinformed so don't claim to know these classes better than we do.

Geist, your guides are amazing. I can only hope you make a guide for each character class because each one is the best I've seen for the ones you've chosen.

And while not everyone will adopt the same playstyle as you, your choice reasonings allow me to slightly tailor your guides for myself.

I'm currently working towards your Lightning build. I'm still on the fence though between Bleed vs. Explosive at Evolution 6 of BB. Does the explosion inflict proximity damage to those not hit by the BB?

I do not think that the explosions hurt nearby enemies, but the damage output is higher than Bleed perk at longer range (especially if you use the range perk.) because you get a fixed amount of damage from the explosion whereas a Bleeding specced BB will be completely dependant of range for damage calculation.

I barely see any Batarian Soldier since the Cone perk nerf...

Updated for Rebellion.

any non-shotty related suggestion? :)

I did test most AR and SMGs on the Batarian Soldier but while it is true that fighting at close range negate recoil and accuracy issues, the synergy between BB, batarian Melee and the ability of a shotgun to reliably one-shot most enemies is just unmatched.

:devil:The Batarian Soldier doesn't need a guide. Just a Saber, and one mean ass player. This is one of my favorite classes.

A true batarian is busy Falcon punching and blasting people in the head with a shotgun ahead of the rest of his team and while I love the Saber, it's not the most practical weapon to do that.

Thread updated.

A great character to play. Rarely see them in games.

The blades are fine without the cone spread ev . Its an up close weapon designed to kill mooks and stun shielded enemies so you can finish them off with your weapon or melee them.
Explosive blades will stun them again if they don't kill outright . Inferno grenades for longer distance killing

Couple points in the armor power for survivability and good to go. Power amp on Hurricane with incen ammo is a handy combo

Power Amp IV and a Power Magnifier on your weapon gives scary results yeah, you can just run between ammo boxes and melt everything with Inferno spam, but you will have to play very selfish keeping the nades for yourself and it might be troublesome to carry a game since you will be quite squishy.

People confident in their ability to play should indeed try a full power setup, it's quite amusing.

If the character had a dodge, I'd probably go full power, as it is, er, no.  Also, I like to falcon punch stuff. Don't play the BatSo that often, but he's in my rotation. Powerful and fun.

This was the thread that made me fall in love with my brotarian all those months back. Thanks for this guide B)

I don't run the soldier with the falcon punch build now though since the broguard is there to deliver the hatesurf.

Usually choose a different character if other grenade users. The great thing about the BS is that you have such a potent weapon in unlimited supply with a reasonably short cooldown with the BBs .
Grenade spamming not necessary .

He is definately not squishy with around 1500 health and shields  with fully specced health + damage reduction in Blade armour (25% at evo 3 with 25% melee dam) . If you get into a situation where you need to carry a game then all the grenades are yours and you can just burn everything !
