Much like the prize at the end of the box, they are just myths.

It put a smile on me to hear them talking freely and having nobody being creepy on them.
I stayed quiet and continued gaming normally. It was a bronze match so it was silent for the most part.
On a side note, female gamers are the same as male gamers, same skill, same likes, etc, so they deserve the same respect, if not more, for venturing into the creepy world of games.

– Most gamers are teens, right? Wrong. The teens from back then who are now in their 20s and 30s (hi, I'm one of them!) are a significantly bigger chunk of the market than teens today.
– Most gamers are male, right? Wrong. Female gamers now outnumber males. If you're not running into them, they're just not playing the same games as you or they're more into the single-player aspect of the game (as in Mass Effect).
Shocking, but true.

Hate to break it to you, but it sounds like you're still operating under the illusion of stereotypes based off of 1990s statistics. The market has changed immensely. Probably the biggest changes:

i believe your mistaking the statistics that say most people on these forums are srs
shocking, but true!
also, female gamers do not outnumber males.according to survays done by the educational game research, its roughly a 60 male / 40 female split

Yes, as stated earlier, it was just a tongue-in-cheek way of saying I've yet to run into female in a match. BTW: in my 30s, been playing since the commodore 64 days. And I'm sure there are a ton of female gamers (which is obvious by the number in the forums or even this thread), but I was primarily speaking of MP. Lot's of good posts on the thread from women saying why they don't use mic. I'm cool with that. Just curious.

Its funny, because so far the only ones to mention kitchens or sammiches are the girl gamers
Also, I'm usually in a party, so I don't have any idea

My god, i might have added more life to this joke by recently refusing to play "one more match" with a team, excusing myself with a need to prepare the dinner...igreenmagei wrote...
I haven't met another woman on MP yet. It would be nice. Teenage boys making sexist jokes gets a bit tiring. They're being good natured about it, I just don't think they realise that joke about going back into the kitchen is as sparklingly witty as they think it is ._. This is the reason I'm sometimes reluctant to speak on the mic!

A friend I play with doesn't like to talk with randoms for this very reason. She didn't want to get that attention for being a woman.
This is the reason I don't use a mic anymore. I usually get "Is this a girl or a kid?", or "OMFG THERE'S A GIRL IN HERE!". And then the people I play with think it's ok to friend me afterward.

These are usually the options when a girl talks in a game:
1) Gets hit on (obviously).
2) "You're a girl you must suck." or "Your score was low. Must be because you're a girl."
3) "Oh wow you did a good job. That's amazing since you're a girl." My favorite backhanded compliment.
4) Rape threats and/or other awful verbal abuse.
5) "Stop playing video games and get back into the kitchen." (Yes, this deserves its own category).
So, as previously pointed out, my guess is that most girls just don't talk. I personally talk all the time but that's because I thankfully have not had a single person be a jerk to me in this game (PC).
All of these happen a lot more often than most people would think. MP is unfortunately not the most female friendly gaming environment.

Seems like alot sexist bullcrap from men or children who can't respect women as a whole

Never saw any of this on PC. And anyway most PC users don't have a mic, so that's not like we'd know their gender.
But seriously, people behave differently because they're playing with female gamers? That's crazy.
I mean, for me it's basically the same thing, playing with a girl or a dude. If you're good, I'll friend you to play some private games with other good players. If you aren't good, whether you're a guy or a woman, I'll just hope to not run into you again. Unless you spent the whole game cracking jokes
It's probably the fact that the gamers are protected by their anonymity status, so they can say stupid things/grief without fearing repercussions. They wouldn't do this in real life I think.

The conversations I've had with men in MP have been very mature and focused on the game. However, none of them have been with kids, so that could be the reason.

I'm probably an odd one out here, but I'm a female gamer and in ME3 MP I've never gotten offensive comments (or any comments, really) about being a girl. Admittedly, I don't talk very often, but that's because it's my personality rather than I'm afraid of what people will say to me.

Well their have been a few sexists here and there making messed up threads but yeah I haven't dealt with any of that nonsense in the actual mp since alot of my friends are pretty good and they're on friendslist

I've only ended up on a team with 2 chicks. My manifest shows that I've found more N7 weapons than that. Of course, both are basically random, so who knows?

I have never had this happen. Perhaps it's because I'm on the PC and am usually the only one who talks (unless I'm playing with friends)

Being a woman, and knowing, and playing with many others.......... N7 weapons are MUCH more rare. By a landslide.
This.
I play with other females all the time. I don't think we are really rare at all. N7 weapons though....URs are a pain in the butt to unlock and upgrade.

Same. Not one of either. TBH after reading this thread it's made me quite convinced and more than a little paranoid that I must sound terribly mannish
