I haven't met another woman on MP yet. It would be nice. Teenage boys making sexist jokes gets a bit tiring. They're being good natured about it, I just don't think they realise that joke about going back into the kitchen is as sparklingly witty as they think it is ._. This is the reason I'm sometimes reluctant to speak on the mic!

Why? Why would you revive a month dead thread that DESERVED to stay dead?

I don't think we're as rare as you think. One of my more frequent regular groups on MP has only female members (including myself). We don't like to speak up on the mic online if we don't know you. People can be very crass or just outright dismiss us immediately. However, I also have a group of guys that I group with on MP a lot that don't bother me at all about it.
As an aside, I play DND about once a month, and there are three women and four men. The DM is female. And very, very good.

I've seen a bunch of female gamers actually. Of the people who have actually spoken up in PC (and that is far and few between...) a bout 20% were female. I think PC is more female friendly. After all, some article somewhere said that ~30% of gamers were female, but I think they were only referring to PC anyway.

I'm gonna assume you either don't have a ps3 or just haven't run into fellow female players?

The bold part should clarify...and no I don't have a ps3, which is why I limited my comment to PC only.

I have lot of ladies in my friend list, actually ladies are more common than N7 weapons.

Question to ladies.
When you talk on the mic in a random lobby guys really make sexist jokes?

The only thing I'd see as excluding or badgering women is that whenever either a phantom or banshee shows up, there's a bunch of misogynistic slurs following. Always makes me laugh, but I guess it could be somewhat abrasive.

I was talking to a friend list guy in the MP lobby and he joked to me about not being in church that day and playing games instead. One of the guys we didn't know commented that women shouldn't be allowed in church, and that their husbands should teach them everything they needed to know about religion at home. I couldn't tell if he was joking or not because he was deadpan in his delivery, but either way, yowza!  I should point out that I do play ME MPon PC.

It wouldn't surprise me.  Internet anonymity can turn people into proper pillocks.  And they think they're being oh-so-funny.

I wonder what the correlation between those willing to pay for N7 weapons and those willing to pay for ladies is...
... Ladies.

Some people are just stupid :P

In my case I see man and woman as the same thing, the difference for me is only gender, but as individuals we are all equal.

For that reason I don't care if my friend player is male of female, if he/she know how to play it's ok, and even if he/she doesn't know how to play I play with him/her anyway to teach him/her.

Unless I'm playing with friends, I usually hear silence.

I played a random match once, and all of us were Krogan (before this weekend's event) and I heard "KROGAN SMASH" as we all headbutted a Banshee.  It was hilarious Image IPB

Another time when I was soloing a wave someone warned me about group of murauders surrounding me.  But that's pretty much it.

Unless you're a tool or a creeper, I'd like to hear more than myself during a match.  It makes it far more fun.

Completely agree, that's one thing that i do not like about randoms, they don't talk and I like to talk a lot, my english is not perfect because is not my native language, but I just don't care that because I enjoy to make jokes or feel the other player near to me while playing, it's really great.

Women are a blast to play not only are they good communicators but ones I have played swear a lot and joke around a lot which help make the game more social. I tend to get pretty serious randoms or silence so it's a nice change up.

Both are pretty "ultra-rare" in the game.

Can we end this??? 30 to 40 percent of the people you play with are female. Yes we are out there. Many times we are the ones that revive you. And yes...many of us can shoot too.
IRL I out shoot many swat team members. Does that translate here? Not so much. I have days I can't hit a brute at 1 meter.
Guys we are out there, like it or not. Yes some of us suck, some of us could take you out.
Hmmm Sounds just like the guys you play with...

Not really. You can buy 100s of PSPs without even seeing a single ultra rare.

However, these old topics about "female gamers" pop up on the front page of BSN every single day. You would think with so many "female gamers" making threads/replies to threads about "female gamers" that they're really not all that rare at all.

Well, no... Mass Effect is an RPG, which tend to be popular with female gamers (perhaps because it's one of the few genres where you can have a competent not-hypersexualised female protagonist- just guessing). I'd expect ME to have a pretty decent female fanbase. Perhaps not so much the multiplayer though.

Bold part is so true.

Definitely N7 weapons. Heck, I've been finding myself in a team with three women very frequently these last two weeks. Not that I'm complaining... every single female gamer I know is very nice to talk to, not to mention that I've yet to find one who is a bad player. Might not be "l33t"... but not bad either.

I have something like 60 URs; I am pretty sure I have not played with 60 females in Me3 MP. Or maybe I have and they are just quiet.

Again...a large percent of the people you have played with are female. Do you tell everyone you play with you are male?

I agree. this is a stupid thread.

Outside of the obvious impacts on their own identity, within the context of gaming, the gender of a gamer is irrelevant. Most of the gamer ladies that I've met are great and fun people, but would rather be in fun/good company that treat them as a gamer & person first, rather than their gender. It's a part of who they are, certainly, but it's not what defines them.

So this constant attention on their gender, I would think, would cause them to stay away. If you care that much, then it's probably not their friendship that you want...just sayin...

You're pretty lucky. I know some other female gamers that play more male orientated games such as Call of Duty, Battlefield and Gears of War, and they get sexist abuse without people even hearing them talk. Just knowing they are female is enough apparently.

This website should go some way to showing you just how lucky you are.

'Do you wanna date me on Xbox live'. Good lord. I never suspected the world was that sad. Okay, colour me lucky then.

I half want to go back to the halcyon days of my pre-MP ignorance.
