I'm kind of ok with the idea of a paradigm shift. God-child doesn't bother me too much. Not agreeing with God-child also doesn't matter to me too much, although it can be jarring. Eg
a) Reapers must preserve organic life by turning entire species into (from what we see) identical, mindless, implacable slaugher machines. That's what they've been programmed to do, I think it's stoopid, but that's what they think. Morons, but ok.
What bothers me is not the logic of the reaper factions opinions. What bothers me is that I cannot understand the possibilities offered to you.
a) Destroy. Ok, I'm told that the catalyst can scan the ENTIRE GALAXY for synthetics, and destroy them. Ok, super-tech, paradigm shift. Space magic. But if you have space magic of that level, why create the reapers in the first place? Just scan the galaxy every 50000 years! Zap any advanced tech and send people back to the stone age! Also, I'm told that Shepard will also die, as he has cybernetics. So, what counts as synthetic life? We keep getting told that Shepard's mind it completely free of synthetic capabilities, so it goes beyond synthetic "minds". So what? Artificial heart? Life support system? Prosthetic arm? Wooden leg? Glass eye? Surely these aren't example of synthetic life, they're organs/limbs replaced with non-organic components.
If I'd been told that I could destroy all reaper devices, that I could understand. A signal is sent out, to all reaper devices (no scanning required, just signal) and they are deactivated. I'm ok with this, even the relays (note that the reapers don't explode, so I don't see why the relays should go nova when deactivated).
Secondly, and most simply, what the hell does synthetic-organic life mean? Every human gets a prosthetic leg? Every geth gets an organic ear grafted to their back? Every being somehow has a make up half genetic and half digital? It doesn't make sense as a concept, and drawing circuit boards on peoples faces doesn't help. Just. Stupid. Disappointed.
c) Control. This I have less trouble with, actually, as it only affects reaper tech, not changing an entire galaxy. The only problem is the weird combination of "you will be in control, AND dead". I haven't tried this one yet, so perhaps there are greater problems.
I very, very much enjoyed ME3, even more than the first two games. I am kind of ok with the ending, but it was disappointing, and so here are my thoughts for what they are worth.
