Got a shock, party died faster than I could start to panic, luckily my PC (mage) was standing down the little hill and finished her off after ages with her staff due to being out of mana and lyrium potions... *cough*. Well, bugger was dead in the end...

if dragons are immune to fire damage, doesn't shale's attacks when equipped with fire crystals prevent her from doing damage to Flemeth?

Shale has two equipment slots, and there are two types of crystals: One for offense, one for defense. Slot fire resist crystals in the defensive slot. Offense, I'd guess maybe ice would work best. I don't know what Flemeth is vulnerable to (if anything). Anyway, I'm here because I ran into Flameth for the first time just now. As a level 12 party of surprised dead people.

I saw her hurt herself with her own fire slit once.

eventually i just decided to double cross morrigan and made a deal with flemeth for her grimoir ... however that part seems bugged because when you discuss alternative options with morrigan to deal with the flemeth situation and mention a protective spell then morrigan explicitly says that she needs the grimoire ... while i did give the -supposedly real- grimoire from flemeth to her after the deal with flemeth and morrigan even mentioned that she would study it before i discussed these other options with her

Ohh! That what he meant! I was hoping it was something more along the lines of party camp with a case of Alistair cooking dinner

You can't afford enough bolts or arrows at level 7.
You mean those arrows/bolts that mystically keep appearing on my never ending quivers? If i only could find an imp to upgrade those to +2

Aww, give him a break. The first time I played through the game I made the same mistake as him. Seeing all the "Fire arrows" and "Ice bolts" quivvers made me think "There must be regular arrow quivvers." I checked every weapon shop and couldn't find any. It was only by speaking to a friend of mine about it, and having him correct me, that did I learn you had unlimited normal projectiles for your ranged weapons.
I was under the misconception that I was going to fight a mage. As for Flemith, I practically solod her around level 7 or so on Normal with a Rogue. It was by accident. Like tranj84cl above I figured it should be cake with poultice for healign. Oh how wrong I was!
I had me and the 3 brainless companions. Alistair and Muttley were the first to fall. Shale soon afterwards. Leaving just my poor level 7 Rogue down on the bottom hill plucking away at a Dragon with nearly three quarters of it's life left. I nearly reloaded, but then I noticed that she wasn't moving. Just a fire spit every once in a while. "Woo-hoo!" I thought to myself, "This might be my lucky day." I could Poultice through her fire spit with some finess in cooldown swapping.
Then she pulled me. For about a quarter of a second I went "Oh shi-" until I noticed she pulled me into a little hill which prevented me from being pulled all the way to her; I was still at range. "This is my lucky day!" I thought to myself, and continued to drown myself in Poultice as I plucked away from my quivver of ne'er ending arrows.
Such a cheap fight has yet to be fought since...but a win is a win! And since I was the only one alive at the end, I can tell the story of how I took down a dragon all by myself equipped with only a dagger and a loin cloth way I want.

The best way to kill a Giant Enemy Dragon is flip it over, and attack its weakpoint, for massive damage. You have real-time weapon changing, so this should be natural. These things happened in ancient Japan.

I needed to force field my tank the last time I did that fight cause he was about to die in her mouth. Well Flemeth did not care about my tank anymore from that point on and switched to me (mage). Looks like some enemies ignore force fielded party members on nightmare which is actually funJacks-Up wrote...

I learned the hard way without a save for 30 minutes. The old hag shapeshifts into a bloody dragon and handed my entire party's ass to them. Figures Morrigan would bang you and send you off to your doom. Least I took the time to bang her twice with my wife watching me play hah.Has anyone beaten this thing?. I also had my party's ass handed to them on the mountain top from a dragon when I banged on the gong.
What's the trick if any?.
I killed her on hard at Level 12. You're probably trying to kill her with a melee party Range = Win have 1 tank and Force field him.

when are you able to fight her mother
it is an optional personal quest for morrigan which unlocks by talking to her when your approval rating is high enough. you can not take morrigan with you or flemeth will not show up though.
edit: you also need a black grimoire from the mage tower to trigger this.
