Isn't it funny how we almost all hate the store random system but BW does nothing to change it?

Nothing?  Except maybe.... fun?  Don't you realize that the random unlock system is the only reason people like yourself are still playing this game?  It's actually a fairly clever way of extending the playability of the game for some people.  Even if it turns them into a bunch of grouses.

I have everything maxed except for my Male Human Engineer appearances (still missing all unlockable customization), one Geth Engineer, one Geth Infiltrator and one Krogan Vanguard appearance unlock. Aside from my very incomplete list of ultra-rares of course.

I don't hate the store.

But then again, I do promote my characters so I do get some benefit from those redundant character cards. Also, I knind of am in a hate-love with the whole thing. I am always disappointed when I didn't unlock something new, but then again I am happy I still have something to unlock in the first place. Makes me grind for something more than simply a meaningless N7 rating increase.

Pretty funny, huh?

The goal of skinner box reward schedules is NOT to be fun or enjoyable in any way, it's to condition compulsive behavior.  So no, it's not surprising that EA uses them despite nobody liking them.

They can't just change the store system. It would take a huge patch and lots of resources to implement an entirely new loot system, especially since they have to worry about no one losing what they currently have. On top of that this game has a ton of game breaking bugs, which I'm sure they are more concerned with.

The best you can hope for is more specific packs. If there ever is a MP spin off game in development, then asking for a different system makes sense. I think Bioware likes the money they can make from this though.

It's probably one of the main reasons MP is still so popular. Gotta have some carrot on the stick.

That is why I don't hate the RNG, what I would do if I was BW is add an option where you either use 15EUR or 1,000,000 credits and can buy three cards of your choice- and they can not be the same.

No, it's not free. You already payed for all the weapons, all the characters, and all the upgrades. But now, you need to put in x-amount of hours to earn x-amount of credits to unlock the content that you already spend $50-$60 on. This isn't inherently a bad idea, it makes players feel that they accomplished something more than just handing out all the weapons.

The problem is when you spend an hour playing and get character cards for characters you already have completely unlocked. You basically just had your hour of time wasted.

Bioware could make ONE SIMPLE CHANGE, the random drop system would be just fine. No more character cards for characters you already have maxxed out. That's it. That's f*cking it. They'd probably make more money because people wouldn't risk getting pointless upgrades.

And to the people saying that removing the random drop system would kill the MP: Well sure, but that would only because unlocking items is the most interesting thing to them in the MP.  Perhaps more variety in missions and maps would make people play the game for the experience rather than unlocking weapons.

EDIT: Grammar errors ftw

Well they aren't going to give out N7 cards after that, and there isn't any other gold cards.

I mean, would you really be happy about getting 5 more thermal clips for your 20-60 minutes of play instead of a character card that didn't do anything?

Random drop system needs to stay in MMO's and arpg's

That being said, I don't ****in hate it but neither do I love getting everything but what I want over and over again. I just want consumables to be filler alongside character cards - that way we get something remotely useful out of the transaction.

I don't find the constant 100k exp to 60k credit ratio very funny. And if you were a person who spent cash (which I'm pretty certain there are quite a few people that have), it's like close to $2 per 100k exp?  But if people really are like me, they're just waiting for the next big game before uninstalling me3. You may say we won't be missed, but I'm not sure the developers will say that. Especially if you consider that multiplayer seems to be a decent source of cash.

And I also haven't found an incentive to promote characters. My n7 is around 1100 and I can't even recommend anyone doing it unless it's to respec. What's the point? Perhaps to ease your pains to see a crappy single player ending?

Got all weapons up to X, except the N7 ones. All characters fully unlocked, except Geth infiltrator, missing lights. Didn't spend real money, just had fun playing the multiplayer not worrying about the rewards.

Maybe you should do the same. Have fun, and enjoy the challenge.

Another way to look at the store system is that its people paying stupid amounts of money for the packs thats allowed us all to get free DLC.

If it was a standard unlock system we would have all had to pay for the resurgence pack

You're probably right, but I don't think everyone would buy into the resurgence pack either. We'll see though. I'm sure in the future they will make you pay for the dlc and the community will probably be somewhat divided.

Heres the thing though, if they made it so you could buy what you want then most people playing it would buy the weapons they want, max them out and stop playing.
By dangling a FREE carrot in front of you and you chasing after it they have achieved what they set out to achieve- keep people playing.

BioWare hates its fans, it's the only thing I can conclude based on what they do and what they say.

There are lots of suggestions for improvements, but the store system should never have been there anyway.

It's by far the most insulting gameplay mechanic I have seen in the last many years, perhaps ever. Yay for the golden age of gaming where get rich quick schemes come first and gameplay second.

This is a popular myth around here. I don't believe it for a second. I wouldn't run my own business like that if I could, giving people things for free just because I was making money elsewhere. The free DLC so far for MP has been alright, but its purpose is clearly to renew interest in buying packs.

Remember when they promised we'll be getting more focused packs, with less variables? I guess by variables, Bioware meant "****ty-stuff, average stuff, OP stuff"

I don't hate it, the Store's been very generous to me the last 2 and a half weeks, so...

It would be better if we knew what we were buying with our "hard-earned" creds when it comes to consumables and equipment though.

Random drops for weapons, mods & characters = GOOD
Random drops for consumables and equipment = BAD

I doubt very much they will charge us for any multiplayer DLC to be honest. Unless it was something major, like new game modes + new enemies or something.
It would definitely divide the community, thats another reason i think it will always be free.

Im more than happy to have the store system the way it is and get free DLC, rather than have a system like COD and have to pay 1200msp for a few new maps.

So the actual game is just time wasted to grind through hoping for equipment that's only of any use for playing the game? The logic escapes me.

I don't have a problem with a random system—if it allows you to trade items with others, OR if it looks at what you have before giving you something useless. If you've got a Turian Soldier at Level 20, with all the Appearance unlocks, then that Turian Soldier Character Training card is pretty useless, don't you think? At least they cap the Thermal Clips at 255, I can't wait until I've go the Ops Packs maxed as well, I'm SO tired of getting those, while jealously hoarding Cobra Missiles and Medigel. I can deal with the random weapon upgrades and the random weapon mod upgrades, at least I'm getting something I don't have. I'm only missing one character at this point (Krogan Vanguard), but instead of all those useless character upgrades for my maxed Humans, I'd LOVE to have some more appearance unlocks for my newer characters, even if they are Level 20.

I mean really, who promotes squads anymore? Just to raise your N7 rating? Boring and pointless.

I just want to stop getting characters I have gotten 5 of already. Once that happens the system would be perfect.
