Alright... here's my problem. I recently purchased the Arrival and Overlord DLC. Preceeding these purchases, I'd picked up LotSB with no issues, and beaten the game.

Since their install, however, I've noticed 3-D rendering issues and graphics distortions. Things such as: Missing or invisible frames in some 3-D models, stretched or 'sharded' objects, or frames that are simply not quite in the right position (this is most obvious with the Viper sniper rifle; the stock is, for some reason, a prime target for the distortion).

I'm running a Steam copy of the game on Windows Vista (including Service Pack 2). I've got an Athlon Dual Core 2.6 Gig processor, and 2 gig of Ram, and an ATI Radeon HD 3600 graphics card. My Radeon drivers recently updated (it was a bit of a fight to get them to do so), and I suspect that may be another possible cause, but Windows Device Manager isn't giving me the option to roll back my drivers. Likewise, I've attempted System Restore, but it's consistently had errors during the restore and not changed anything.

I'm really hoping someone here might be able to lend me a hand figuring this out, because I've attempted every option I can manage without sinking money into the problem. I'd likewise be glad to provide any additional information I can.

Try doing a clean uninstall and reinstall of your graphics drivers (it might be worth checking on google to see if the new ones have issues with ME2). A reinstall of the game and deleting your existing config files may also solve the issue.

Which specific config files are you referring to? The ones in Steam's folder, or do I need to hunt elsewhere?

When you uninstall (at least in the retail version) it asks you if you would like to keep game settings, just select 'no' after you've backed up your save(s). To be honest it's more likely a driver issue or corrupted texture than a bad config file. I'd uninstall the Radeon drivers via add/remove programs and redownlod and reinstall them first before reinstalling ME2.

In the process of doing so now. Unfortunately, Steam doesn't give me the retail version's means of uninstalling... but I think I found a decent workaround.

Alright... everything about the game -except- the problem appears to be running better. The graphics drivers did note that they had a problem during install. This is the section of the install report.

AMD APP SDK Runtime
Final Status: Fail
Version of Item: 10.0.923.1
Size: 90 Mbytes

Problem has been solved. Basically, it comes down to "AMD's new drivers couldn't get a clean install, so I rolled back to the old ones".
