K, on this particular playthrough, Lynn the elven mage intends to bang Leliana, Alistair, and end up with Zevran. However, since I am not going to have her ride Alistair into the sunset, I want to keep Loghain but not screw up Alistair's life.

If I recall right, you can have Alistair become king and have Loghain make the ultimate sacrifice.

So a bit of guidance is in order because I don't want to screw this up. Alistair has always had my back so I owe him this much, as pitiful as that sounds since it is a game. :D

Harden Allistair after he meets Goldanna by telling him "Everyone's out for themselves" and I think he'll stick around to become King if you nominate him although he still gets in a strop and leaves your party for good.

K, I got that part. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else.

So basically, I harden him and spare Loghain, he rage quits and takes throne? Will he still marry Anora though? I gotta make sure my homie has a warm bed if it is possible. If not, no worries.

Yep, that's it.

Just make sure you harden Alistair and then set up the marriage with Anora. He rages hard; leaves; you get Loghain and then in the end credits he comes back and is all, "Oh, I see you're a hero now... righto... guess I'll be King then. Still pissed, though." It's one of the better endings I've seen. I, personally, haven't done it this way. I've just seen my girlfriend do it on her play-though. I can confirm that's how it plays out, though.

This is how I intend to end things - especially since I got so sick of Alistair I'm ready to marry him off to Oghren if the dwarf would have him.

Lynn is still going to shag him first. Bwahahaha.

K. I must be missing something, I can't seem to get this to work. If I choose Alistair, no matter what Loghain dies, do I choose Anora? Just for some background, I hardened Alistair, got them to agree to marry, won the landsmeet.

Make sure you duel and execute Loghain. When you go to spare him, Alistair will ask you to make him king. I think you should be able to say "I thought that you two would marry" at that point and he'll pretty much just give up and agree.

Yeah, Anora won't marry the guy who kills her father so they can' t rule together if Alistair duels him.

**SPOILERS BELOW**

To king Alistair and make him rule and keep Loghain alive you must first harden Al with his Goldanna quest (as discussed in an earlier post).  In the second conversation following he will bring up the discussion you had after meeting the harpy and ANY option BUT "I didn't mean it that way" will set him to "Hardened".  (I usually select "its about time").

Then at the landsmeet you must duel Loghain when the option comes up.  After the duel he yeilds and Riordan offers his "lets get him to join the GW's" thing.  Al will still protest hardened or not.  At this point you MUST select Anora AND Alistair to rule together no other option will make Al king.  If you king Alistair he will just execute Loghain on the spot.  If you select just Anora, she will either execute Al or if you insist will exile him from Ferelden.

Either choice still screws Al's life up as he is then stuck in a loveless marriage with the ice queen from hell but at least he ins't a worthless drunk or dead.

Refuse Morrigan's ritual and voila, you are set for the Redeemer Ending achievement.

Afterward you can make Loghain into dragon kibbles and you will see both Anora and Alistair at the coronation.  Don't look for him to be much happier then either but I hear he's not as angry if you end up letting Loghain die to the AD.

Actually it's enough to make sure it's not Alistair that duels Loghain. If any other member of your party save Alistair duels Loghain you will still be called upon to decide Loghain's fate and his death will be on your hands.

Huh, somethings wrong then, I suggest they marry, and they both tell me where to go.

Did you get them to agree to it beforehand?

Are you sure Alistair is hardened? I didn't arrange the marriage when I spared Loghain and they still agreed to marry (I even think Anora betrayed us at the Landsmeet).

You only have to harden him to marry cow face, you don't need to speak to them before the meet about getting hitched for it to happen.

But if you do get them to agree, you don't need to pass an approval check at the Landsmeet.

Yeah they agreed to it before hand, she chose our side at the landsmeet. I did what was said in Alistairs personal quest, dunno if I spoke to him about it afterward though, it was a while back.

In the one "What happens if I spare Loghain" thought I had where I wanted to see what he had to say in camp I did just as I posted above. Since I hadn't planned on sparing him and was going to have my HNF and Al rule together I didn't even ask Anora about marrying him. So that isn't necessary (though you can certainly bring it up beforehand). I spared Loghain hitched Al to Anora on the spot and satisfied my curiousity back in camp. Then reloaded and killed the sucker at the Landsmeet and finished my game out.

And I picked up Recruiter achievement for satisfying my curiousity. Guess it doesn't always just kill cats...

Hmm, after trying out the options in several playthroughs I must say that for my 'main' character who's romancing him, I prefer not hardening Alistair or making him king. However, in order to have him marry Anora I can see why you sort of have to harden him -- but it's still passing strange there is only that one line that does the trick.

Sure, my rogue is a cynical bugger who'd pounce on any chance to point out that everyone's out for himself-- but a character who thinks another comment is more appropriate to make to a disappointed friend seems to miss the opportunity. Oh well, that's what message boards are for.

So you got Anora to agree to it if Alistair was willing, got Alistair to reluctantly agree, told Anora that it was a go, hardened Alistair, didn't kill Loghain, then picked "I thought you two were going to marry" when the option for picking a ruler came up and they refused?

Yeah, maybe the hardening didn't take for some reason. Like I said I'm not sure if I talked to him again about it. Just checked, and the only save I have before his personal quest is 10hrs into the game 0_o. Oh well, does anyone know if his approval rating effects it? Should it be high, med, low?

His approval has to be in the 70's to get the follow-up conversation that cements the hardening.

How high does it need to be to get the Goldanna quest? I know I've never had a problem having the follow-up conversation two seconds later outside of Goldanna's house.

According to the wiki, 26+ (Warm or Interested). That makes sense, since the second part triggers once he's at Friendly or Adore.

K. got Allistair all set, now I think I screwed up my romance with Leliana, all I get is the dialog for her stupid stories, unbelievable.
