It's odd that the OP hates sniping but loves Shockwave.
It's like his priorities are the opposite from everyone else. Sniping
becomes really easy with the Infiltrator's time dilation effect in ME2,
but it can be a pain in ME1 before you get a good rifle and level up
your skill. Shockwave is probably the most useless biotic skill in ME2,
since about all it does is stagger people on upper difficulties, not to
mention that it's rare to have enemies lined up in a row. Husks on
lower difficulties are about the only thing it proves useful on.
I'd say that Infiltrator or Vanguard are the most consistent in terms of abilities in all three games.
1.) I didn't say I hated sniping...I said I suck at it. If I was good I would very much enjoy it. When I used Shockwave as my Vanguard in ME3 with suspend, shooting targets down with a shotgun or even assault riffle is just as good as a sniper riffle. Maybe not as quick, but it works.
2.) Shockwave was MUCH improved in ME3...I still get some use of it in ME2 however. If you upgrade it all the way and pick Improved Shockwave it is very useful IMO...and not just on husks.
3.) I agree with you, Vanguards are pretty much the same through the whole trilogy minus no shockwave in ME1.
I am still going through Mass Effect as an Engineer, and yes, it probably is the weakest class I have ever played (keep in mind I have never tried Infiltrator). I am enjoying it though.
If it's one thing I cannot stand about this series its how much the talents and powers changed over the trilogy. Why as an Engineer in ME2 do I not have a neural shock? What happened to Damping? It's cool that I can deploy a combat drone, but all of a sudden I can throw fireballs like Liu Kang and ice balls like Sub-Zero!? And finally, the one that makes me the maddest
WHY CAN'T I USE AMMO POWERS WHEN I DID IN ME1 AND FURTHER MORE WHAT HAPPENED TO MY POISON ROUNDS! /end rant
