So I have a question.

If I side with the Templars and destroy the circle tower, does that mean the only way I can enter the fade to unlock Blood Mage is by having Jowan do the blood magic ritual? Just making sure so I can leave certain companions at camp and not take the approval hit.

thanks!

Yes.

You still take the hit from Alistair.

If you're already wanting to get blood mage shouldn't you not have many second thoughts about using blood magic to get there? Just a thought >.>

And so what if you take a hit... it isn't that hard to make nice with Alistair.

Oh I don't have second thoughts about it, just making sure I leave the right companions in the camp so I don't get approval hits from them. But, I was going to be female romancing Alistair, so that kind of stinks. Oh well.

Thanks!

Really? I always found Alistair to be one of the hardest to raise approval with, at least as a male PC. He only ever gives +1-3. I think once I got a 4.

If you don't mind metagaming, you can unlock it, then revert to an earlier save and it'll still be unlocked.

Kind of cheating, though.

Ah yes, I was in the exact same position with my first playthough fem mage actually. It does hurt if you're trying to romance him but as long as you have enough gifts for him (particularly make sure to pick up his moms pendant before leaving the castle) you can make it up to him pretty easily. Also you can lower the amount of the approval hit (I believe) if you succeed at the persuade options while he's ranting at you for going the blood magic route.

This is one of THOSE events for Alistair, actually. Like Shale and the Anvil of the Void, and Leliana and the Urn of Sacred Ashes. The first time you get back into camp, he's going to initiate conversation automatically. Just so you know, it can't be avoided.

Its almost a shame that each playthrough doesnt randomise the companions personalities.

It would be kind of interesting to see Alistair as the practical and bitter "recruit" to the Grey wardens. Wynn could be cold hearted mage resenting the years in service to the Circle. Morrigan could be all sweet and truely innocent of the ways of the world and Sten could be the caring father figure always ready with guidance and understanding.

For those interested Kolgrin will teach you blood magic if you're a mage and you defile the ashes..
