I know DA2 had some flaws compared to Origins, however the actual story and characters were still pretty damn good and im sure the developers could have corrected some of these issues in subsequent dlcs (which it seems they did to a point).
I guess my main problem with the retirement of DA2 is that this is a huge storyline in the Dragon Age world and it seems as if Bioware abandoned it before its completion to move on to the next project. They are leaving Hawkes story unfinished when he/she was hyped to be one of the most significant figures in Thedas. Although I am eager to play the next installment in the Dragon Age world, Bioware should wrap up the DA2 story to a close before they move on...they are leaving a lot of fans (and paying customers) unhappy with this decision.
ROFL! I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, but the thought of BioWarEA doing anything that would make a fan unhappy just kills me.
As far as the story goes, maybe they will give us some books or comic books or something to fill some gaps. ME did that between ME2 and ME3.
Im guessing that was sarcasm on your part about Bioware and unhappy fans lol.
The DA books that David Gaider wrote are excellent. But I was watching an interview he had with Felicia Day, and he mentioned taking a break from writing anymore for right now. I havent had a chance to read any of the comics though, are they any good?

I also hate unfinished stories, they drive me nuts. TV does it all the time. Just look at shows like Terminator:TSSC, Point Pleasant, Firefly, and Jericho. At least Firefly got a movie, and Jericho got a book. The companies want profits. I'd imagine EA just didn't believe another dlc would make enough money.
Good point..usually if the potential is there to make money on a product, a company will take advantage of that.

The DA2 characters were ok, but when you compare them to the Origins characters they were pretty forgettable.
And the combat ruined it for me too. It got really boring just pressing "A" over and over again.
The story didn't really do it for me either. In Origins, the Warden beat the arcdemon and saved the world. In DA2, Hawke freed Flemeth and failed to stop the mage/templer war.
I also don't really read any of the books or comic books related to games I play, nothing against people who do, I'm just not into it. So I don't really have any input on that.
Come on..you gotta admit DA2's Varric was just as good as any of the characters in Origins. Id say hes right on par with Alistair.

I think BioWarEA actually out did themselves with ME3. I know right, I didn't think they could either. In fact I had convenced myself that after DA2 that BioWarEA would get their act together and make ME3's ending the greatest of all time. Well ... I don't think things like that about BioWarEA anymore.

Yes sarcasm. It helps me forget the pain.
I hadn't realized Gaider stopped writing. I still think they would fill in the gaps with something. Maybe a Facebook App that you have to pay to play? That would seem right up their alley.
I never got into the comics so I don't know much about them other than they were there.

The worst ever made? Idk about that, although the battle against Meredith at the end was a little over the top. Im hearing a lot about the ending for ME3. I wanna play that now to see what everyone has been talking about.

And just to clarify..I was talking more about the end of DA2 as in no more new material being produced rather than the ending of the game itself.

Im not crazy about the whole comic book idea..the books yes, comic books no.
Basically im just hoping they dont do what they did with 2 and allow us to fully complete the story of DA3 before moving onto something else.
And I have to admit ..I feel a little foolish for being so emotionally invested in a video game lol.

I played many games and DA2 has the worst ending in an RPG game i played so far.
It used to be Risen with the worst but DA2 has surpassed it.
The ME3 ending is a masterpiece compared to the DA2 one.

The news about DA2 wasn't quite like that though. DA2 was obviously meant to continue. David Gaider running around conventions with an _X_LT_D __R_H shirt was supposed to mean something.
So plans were canned, and the plot got flushed down the toilet.
Much worse IMO.

I did initially feel like this. Mainly fueled by the funk I entered after ME3 and my boyfriend saying 'why are you so damn upset! It's a game!' but the more I thought about it, the more I thought 'I spend so many hours building this up and creating relationships with people' that for ME in particular, it's more like playing a role for 5 years and then the TV show getting canned. You're a part of it. It's not like watching a film with a bad ending - I can totally accept that. But when you invest a lot into something that promises your decisions will matter....its tough to reconcile it all when it doesn't happen.
However DA is pretty different in this respect. The end to DA wasn't the strongest I've played in an RPG but because I'd only spent, say, 20 hours with my Hawke, I didn't feel quite as lost when the ends weren't tied up. Also because I knew the series wasn't all about her, I knew she'd go off and do other things despite what the next game brought. Also (unlike ME3....) she had her LI right there next to her to offer support.

I completely understand where your coming from. I dont even think I would let my girlfriend know I spend so much time on these forums because she wouldnt understand lol. Bioware did their job well...they created a product thats so damn addicting and we cant do anything about it!!

I grow weary of this limbonic state. This purgatorial cycle seems to be endless. I would just like some definitive news. Some tiny skerrick of information that could at least bring me a glimmer of solace.
I know, and as much as we gripe about the actions of Bioware, there really isnt anything we can do to change things either. We can only hope it wont be too much longer..thats why Exalted March would have been nice. We would have had something to feed our hunger for Dragon Age until DA3 or whatever else, comes out.
Just have to deal with it and be patient I guess.

Its good to see that DA2 has been put to bed.I bought the game and have completed it once; and once is certainly about as much as I could stomach of it. I certainly, have no interest in buying or playing the DLC. The game had a whole host of flaws(a good page of A4) in comparison to the original. The combat was pants, the appearance changes were awful; characters and storyline lacked depth etc etc etc, not the rpg I was expecting after being so enchanted by the original. Fingers crossed DA3 isn't going to be of the same ilk as DA2. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it is as Bioware seem to be more concerned with making this franchise mass market rather than appealing to their core fans.

EA's goal is to make as much $ as they can. Like 99% of all companies.
They stopped doing any more DLC's because the interest wasn't there hence they felt it will be poor return of investment.

I know you enjoyed DA2 from your previous posts and there are some elements to the game that I liked but for me the sequel is totally overshadowed by the original, which is why I'm so bitter about it.I hope they've learnt there lesson but I'm not too optimistic about it.

idk i noticed some differences between the two games but nothing that drastic. DA2 just seemed to be on a smaller scale than origins. Maybe its because I waited so long between playing the two games that the differences just didnt register with me.

I know that these forums are just a small percentage of their consumer base, however there are a lot of posts asking for new DA2 material. If you scroll through the various forums there are at least as many people who liked DA2 as didnt. I cant fathom that Bioware would not make any money on a final expansion or dlc.

I'm sure there is some demand. I mean I would pick it up myself if they came out with another DLC. I'm sure they sell at least several thousand. Most likely tens of thousands. But what is the cost to produce and release it?
